Could The Jetsons be making their family trip out of development hell this week? It may just be the case with Variety reporting that Warner Bros. Pictures has brought in two writers. The trade reports that writers Van Robichaux and Evan Susser are officially on board the project which has been cursed with development hell turnaround for the last decade.

Robichaux and Susser recently received notice from Hollywood executives for their satirical behind-the-scenes look into the making of Star Wars through the eyes of Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca). Their story Chewie made the Black List of 2011 and has opened them up for new gigs much like breathing new life into The Jetsons. We shall see if they will succeed where others have failed.

No word yet on whether Warner Bros. Pictures is pushing for live-action, animation or a mix of both. Sound off with your thoughts below.

I'd prefer the Herculoids if they want to adapt an old Hanna Barbera family

I always liked the Jetsons but never as much as the Flintstones, would probably check it out though

Wait I thought Kanye West was writing this?

Really though, I could care less about this. My kid doesn't even know who the jetsons are

Yea I'm reall not overly excited about this one either.  But if this is gonna be a full on comedy Steve Carell as George... Sarah Silverman as Jane... Jonah Hill as Elroy.... and Whoopie Golberg as Rosie... I don't know who I'd get to play Judy

lusiphur 2/8/2012 10:28:02 AM

 Emma Stone as Judy.

Heheh ... Kanye West

Could care less = there's  a little bit of caring left.  Should be "Could not care less".  Sorry, pet peeve.

I'm not overly excited about this either, but I'd probably end up seeing it as a rental unless the trailer REALLY blew me away, which is doubtful.

I'm with Wiseguy's notion of the Herculoids or almost any other of the old Hanna Barbera action oriented toon family to get the big screen treatment. Heck I'd be down with a tv revival/reboot of those HB properties.

I also think the time is past for this but what the hey, go for it.

Omega & Lusipher, I like your casting ideas but I'd have Elizabeth Banks as Jane and Jonah is too damn old for Elroy.

I hope they use my favorite Jetsons song Eep Opp Ork Ah-ah. Kanye will do his own version of it. Geez, now I've got to go to Youtube and look at the clip of that song now.

Had they been able to make this in the early 90's, my cast was this:

George - Dan Aykroyd

Jane - Elizabeth Perkins (I know, already Wilma Flinstone...eat me.)

Judy - Jenny Garth

Elroy - Macaulay Culkin (hey, I said early 90's...people still liked him then.)

Mr. Spacely - Danny DeVito

because space ghost wasn't any good except as the silly talk show host on cartoon network. and how can anyone say the time has past on this project? yogi worked, and that's as old. hell, even the smurfs was a suprisingly good flick....and i HATED those bastards as a kid. the jetsons will be a family movie, but intended for the parents more than kids. maybe this movie could spark a reboot of the cartoon series, and why not? they're giving the flinstones to seth mcfarland to butcher.....
