According to Moviehole, the upcoming Rambo sequel starring Sylvester Stallone has gotten a new title: John Rambo.

The previous title was listed as Rambo IV: Pearl of the Cobra.

The film, which stars Matt Marsden, Stallone, Kim Dickens and James Brolin, will see Rambo fighting to save Christian missionaries who are taken prisoner by Burmese soldiers.

Filming is expected to begin February 23 in Thailand.

KJ's Take:  It's a better title, but it's also a shameless rip-off of the recently released Rocky Balboa.

I have to agree...much better title than Rambo IV: Pearl Of The Cobra. I mean...what the hell does a pearl got to do with a cobra? It sounded like straight to video shlock...which this movie might still turn out to be. Hoping for the best though.

Yup, I agree as well... but I do like it.
And I like the premise. Sounds modern and interesting enough.

Never saw a Rocky film before Rocky Balboa but having seen that I want to now see the previous films.

Never saw a Rambo film (but did read the 3rd book). Here's hoping John Rambo inspires me to see its predecessors. =D

I like this title better but I question how it could be a rip-off of the title of his own movie. Picky, picky. I saw Sly in an airport recently and he was looking good with Rambo shoulder-length hair and an extremely buff look. Aging baby boomers eat your heart out!

Come on, you act like he`s a regular dude. He`s an actor and if an actor, especially someone known for action, wants to keep working he has to stay in shape. He does look good for his age, but he isn`t Rocky Balboa. He has a team of trainers, dieticians and nutritionists working for him so he keep that look, which is a lot more than the average joe has. He probably spends alot of the day in the gym maintaining. Its not like he has a 9-5 job.
This is a much better title than Pearl of the Cobra. That just sounded corny. I guess he figured since it worked for Rocky, why not for Rambo. It says everything he wants to say. Its just the man, John Rambo, without any fancy title. Its nice and simple.

I'm going to miss the old title because of the wealth of jokes it provided. It was easily the worst tag-line-title of any movie since "Electric Boogaloo". I don't know of anybody that saw that movie, yet the title is still remembered. Pearl of the Cobra had that same potential (Only "Pearl of the Tango & Cash" could have been better)

Good storyline. Good title. Despite the fact that Sly is what, almost 60? He's still in good shape (a la personal trainers, dieticians, and nutritionists...Like Ponyboy said)...Hey! If Harrison Ford can get away with it with the last Indy Jones movie at 65, I believe? Then, so can Sly. YO' ROCKO!

For the record lochray, a lot of people saw Breakin 2:Electric Boogaloo. Have you? I doubt it. Its an inner city classic. Not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination but one of the movies that introduced hip hop, grafitti and break dancing to suburban and white american youth. It may be a shitty movie by most standards but has a lot of cultural and sociological significance.

Nutrition and working out? You read about Sly's trouble at customs didn't you?

Geez, who give a shit about all the specualtion... I don't know how he did it, but Stallone had me glued to my seat for Balboa, so I guess I gotta give Rambo a chance. It's like he really is Rocky, everyone underestimates him, but by the end of the fight, everyone respects him..... Livin the dream Sly... livin the dream..... Let's see Arnold do that!

i can't wait to see this =) Rambo and Rocky are 2 of the greatests characters ever created. Go sly !
