Sheliss Elleness Zurbach suddenly appears out of the blue in modern-day Tokyo. Destiny has brought her to the human world - destiny in the form of an evil adversary named Gilva. Needing help in tracking down her enemy, she enlists a sexy demon killer.
What Sheelis didn't count on was that a crazed, slimy, tentacled magician would paralyze her and turn her into a sex slave. The slimy tentacles slither all over the paralyzed princess' body... A long night of sexual punishment is about to begin. The Review!
In a battle between demons, it's the women who find themselves knee deep in the tentacles.Audio:
Adult Source Media continues to provide bilingual audio tracks with their releases and this one is no exception. Both mixes are pretty standard fare with stereo layouts encoded at 192 kbps. It's a simple forward soundstage design which is heavier on dialogue than anything else, but that's where it counts and the girls all sound good here. Some of the music when used gives a more full feeling and there are a few action effects that come across nicely as well. Overall though, it's nothing unusual for an adult release. In listening to both language tracks, we didn't have any issues with dropouts or distortions during regular playback.Video:
Originally released in 2006, the transfer for this OVA series is presented in its original full frame aspect ratio. With much of this episode taking place in the night and in other dark places, there's a fair amount of murkiness to a number of scenes. The heavy use of dark blues isn't as problematic as it could be as only a few scenes show much in the way of noise and break-up in that area. Colors in general remain pretty solid, though with flashes of noise here and there, and look pretty pleasing overall. Cross coloration and line noise is pretty much absent from regular playback which gives the show a smooth and appealing look. While it's not a standout OVA in its production values, it's a solid looking piece that is generally problem free.Packaging:
If there's an area where ASM continues to excel it's in picking the right artwork to use for the cover and tying it to a good looking logo design. This release, which is certainly wordy, really works out nicely as it features Sheliss with her outfit being pulled from her as the tentacles wrap around her body. There isn't any visible nudity, though a nipple is certainly peeking out there, but it really conveys exactly what you can expect from the show while containing a lot of nicely detailed artwork in her design. The back cover is quite explicit as it features numerous scenes from the show with the tentacles in action as well as a separate fully clothed piece of artwork of Sheliss herself. The summary runs through the basics of what you could call the plot and the bottom is rounded out with the standard layout that covers the discs features and technical information. The reverse side cover artwork for the back provides non-explicit shots from the show while the front cover version of it is identical except for the very small removal of the pink of what little part of her nipples show. Heaven save us from the nipple!Menu:
The menu design for the release definitely works the simple approach as it has a digital vortex swirling around and we see a brief bit of the opening sequence inside of it. It's kept from showing any nudity but the tentacles do get to show off a bit. On the top layer section of the menu, a floating piece of character artwork for Sheliss is along the left while the right side features the static navigation menu. All of it is tied together with some unremarkable gothic/evil instrumental music. The navigation is simple and effective and they do include the useful straight to the sex feature once again. The disc correctly read our players' language presets and played accordingly.Extras:
The only real extra here is a brief slideshow of various scenes from the show which look really nice. A bonus episode is included as well though once again it's strangely provided without subtitles and really isn't worth watching anyway. I'd much rather see ASM drop these and just punch up the video bitrates to the max and let it fly with that.Content:

A three part OVA series, this first volume of The Night When Evil Falls is a fairly standard adult show that brings back the innocence that are tentacles. Tentacle material has fallen off in popularity over the years as we've been left with more mundane settings and stories that involve far more creepy things. Tentacle porn has always had an appeal since my first exposure to adult anime material came in the form of Urotsukidoji. After that, it's all downhill I guess.
With this being only the first third of the storyline, it's slim pickings in terms of actual content that moves the show forward. Taking place in the modern day world, we quickly learn of a fight between a pair of demon lords that has taken place. One of them, Gilvas, has been wounded severely and is currently in hiding on Earth with some of his attendants and mercenaries. Through those particular demons, he sends them out to capture pretty young things that he can eat up in order to restore his health. It's a hard life and Gilvas despises staying in hiding but there's little else he can do at the moment.
His opponent, Zurbach, has not arrived on Earth but his daughter has. Sheliss is an attractive demoness who has a great little figure combined with demon wings and a tail. She's got the princess attitude about her as she arrives on Earth and dispatches of one of the mercenaries quickly in order to save a human girl named Akane, a self styled demon killer. Forcing her into sexual pleasure in order to have her sign a magic contract that will bind her as a guide, Sheliss wastes no time in setting her position between the two. It's actually amusing in how she does it since Akane is turned into pudding by the magic pretty quickly and starts to really love the entire pain and pleasure aspect of it.
With that out of the way, it's off to fight the demon! Of course, Gilvas is no pushover to begin with and he has a pair of attendants that are quite eager to get down with Sheliss herself. Meduna is a great little character as she comes across as a female magician with her outfit and top hat which is only made more fun by her outgoing lusty personality. The other girl, Miti, falls into that quiet girl with glasses type that is really insanely crazy underneath all of it. No battle is done properly without lots of sex included in it and that doesn't really finish out with this volume, but rather teases you into wanting the next volume for the true climax.
This episode is basically made up of three sex scenes, all of which are pretty good. With solid if unexceptional character designs, we're treated to mostly girl/girl scenes. The opener provides some fun as one of the grotesque demon mercenaries abducts an innocent woman and puts her to the test with his standard tentacles. The second scene features Sheliss manhandling Akane for awhile while not getting naked herself. Her tentacles are rather neat as the heads of them are shaped like dragons that can smooth out when needed. The third scene is set to Meduna and Sheliss as Sheliss finds herself subjected to a special kind of water that when mixed with sex fluids turn into body massagers. Basically, the more turned on she gets, the more the water around her turns into slimy tentacles that get to work on here, thereby turning her on more.In Summary:
The Night When Evil Falls is a decently done piece that provides some good sex scenes, solid character designs and a simple plot premise that works. While it doesn't stand out strongly in comparison to some other series that have used similar approaches, it's by no means a bad looking show or one with terrible sex. With three episodes to play with, it'll hopefully provide some resolution to the short storyline that's being shown here and they certainly want you to buy into the second volume with how this first one ended. If this had been done as a single disc release I can imagine the overall view of it being much better, but as a standalone piece it's enjoyable enough to warrant checking out the next.
