What They Say
A Princess of the Underworld - Defeated ... Degraded ... Deflowered

The Underworld princess Sheliss has been defeated by her archenemy Gilva. Forced to wear sexy lingerie, she is 'taken' by the inferior humans as they swarm around her body, penetrating her every hole and covering her in hot white liquid.

Pleasure and the scent of males uncover her true nature as a female. Sheliss falls into the pit of pleasure as she is changed into nothing but a sex doll...

The Review!
While we get a bit of back story for the show, this last installment tends to focus more on Sheliss' backside more than anything else.

Audio:
Adult Source Media continues to provide bilingual audio tracks with their releases and this one is no exception. Both mixes are pretty standard fare with stereo layouts encoded at 192 kbps. It's a simple forward soundstage design which is heavier on dialogue than anything else, but that's where it counts and the girls all sound good here. Some of the music when used gives a more full feeling and there are a few action effects that come across nicely as well. Overall though, it's nothing unusual for an adult release. In listening to both language tracks, we didn't have any issues with dropouts or distortions during regular playback.

Video:
Originally released in 2006, the transfer for this OVA series is presented in its original full frame aspect ratio. With much of this episode taking place in the night and in other dark places, there's a fair amount of murkiness to a number of scenes. The heavy use of dark blues isn't as problematic as it could be as only a few scenes show much in the way of noise and break-up in that area. Colors in general remain pretty solid, though with flashes of noise here and there, and look pretty pleasing overall. Cross coloration and line noise is pretty much absent from regular playback which gives the show a smooth and appealing look. While it's not a standout OVA in its production values, it's a solid looking piece that is generally problem free.

Packaging:
The final installment of the series isn't all that different from the other two in that Sheliss is the main attraction. That's not a bad thing either as this cover has her being held in place by lots of tentacles that are getting some exploring done, something that she seems to really enjoy by her expression. The back cover is quite explicit as it features numerous scenes from the show with the tentacles in action as well as a separate headshot of Sheliss herself. The summary runs through the basics of what you could call the plot and the bottom is rounded out with the standard layout that covers the discs features and technical information. The reverse side cover artwork for the back provides non-explicit shots from the show while the front cover version of it is identical except for the her exposed breast being covered up and the logo covering up her nether regions.

Menu:
The menu design for the release definitely works the simple approach as it has a digital vortex swirling around and we see a brief bit of the opening sequence inside of it. It's kept from showing any nudity but the tentacles do get to show off a bit. On the top layer section of the menu, a floating piece of character artwork for Sheliss is along the left while the right side features the static navigation menu. All of it is tied together with some unremarkable gothic/evil instrumental music. The navigation is simple and effective and they do include the useful straight to the sex feature once again. The disc correctly read our players' language presets and played accordingly.

Extras:
The only real extra here is a brief slideshow of various scenes from the show which look really nice. A bonus episode is included as well though once again it's strangely provided without subtitles and really isn't worth watching anyway. I'd much rather see ASM drop these and just punch up the video bitrates to the max and let it fly with that.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
While I won't say I went into this volume expecting to be disappointed, I did go into it with somewhat lowered expectations. The second episode of the series was one of the best I've seen in some time when it comes to creative tentacle action and I figured that they'd go a different route for this episode. In addition to that, there was the chance that with this being the last volume that there wouldn't be a proper ending. While that part is accurate, the sex didn't disappoint in the slightest which is what counts in the end. Especially her end.

After the destruction of the city in the previous volume, Akane and Sheliss are thrown outside to the wolves of those who have survived. With some sizeable groups of people milling about the naked ladies, it won't take long for things to go wrong. Surprisingly, the mixed gender crowd doesn't get involved right away as the two women are separated and the demonesses that Gilva has working for him start things off. Each of them is given a good round of public humiliation wherein they show the angry human audience that they're turning them on intently. That goes on for longer than I expected but eventually they turn Sheliss and Akane over to the crowd and the guys start going to town on them. Some envious black magic is used to help the guys become more than they usually are and for longer durations which has the women lusting after them even more.

After Sheliss was broken by Gilva in the last episode, she's pretty much either ready for death or for more sex. She's realized her inner whore and is really coming to grips with it. It's helped along immensely by those who are tormenting her and the lengthy sequence is very well done. A rare bit of creativity has Sheliss being taken from behind by her own tail, a tail which is very sensitive so it's just doubling up on her. At the same time, she's getting all the more excited by those watching her as she's been bound to their arousal. The feedback she's getting just stimulates her more which in turn stimulates them more. It's like a weak version of the movie Strange Days. Akane's role in all of this is pretty light but she does have some action during it. For the most part though, it's all about Sheliss.

Which really does work well as she's got the right look for everything and the way they turned her into this new persona fits with what's happened. Her gothic style outfit is used well throughout the show (though she does seem to get new panties easily when needed) and the public display angle is something that doesn't used often. That brings in a whole lot of dirty talk as well which is a pleasant change from so many of the characters feigning embarrassment over the entire situation. If there's a weak part to the show it's that they decided to do a bit of back story about what happened when Gilva first met her and tried to kill her. It takes you out of the immediate action and comes across as filler since there isn't a real conclusion to the show.

In Summary:
The Night When Evil Falls was a show that played to some of my favorite things and managed to do them well. While the high point of the series for me was the second volume, there are things across all three that worked well and will have me going back to this series again in the future. The only thing that could have made this better - beyond more of it - would be for it all to be on one disc. If all three episodes had been seen at once I imagine that this would have rated higher overall and been a much more complete experience. That said, The Night When Evil Falls is a solid tentacle/demon adult anime series that hits a lot of right notes on a regular basis. Recommended.
