The NIGHT STALKER took it in the neck as it ran third in the ratings in its time slot.

ABC did point out though the series was the network's most-watched show among 18-to-49-year-old viewers in that time slot in more than five years.

The original show was beaten out in the ratings race by Angie Dickinson's POLICE WOMAN. The new version will be around for at least 21 episodes, which is one more than the original show ever ran.

Don't count on it making it to 21 episodes...

Dragon I'll see your 21 episodes and say 11.

The fact that it came in third is not a surprise - it's up against CSI (no new series could top that) and The Apprentice which - although running weaker than in previous seasons - is still strong competition. I think the real ratings question is how much of Alias's audience did it lose? And for that matter, how did Alias do in its new slot? After all, it's now up against Survivor, Smallville (another fanboy favorite), The OC, Everybody Hates Chris (the only UPN show worth mentioning in the ratings race), and the 15 people still tuning in to Joey.

I agree with you, Iracors. This show will be dropped for a mid-season replacement show.

I think Kolchak's lifespan may be determined with the ratings for tonight's show - if there's a large drop-off from last week, it'll probably get yanked before November sweeps.

oops, I mean tomorrow night's show...

snallygaster has got it right. Tuesday night would have been a better slot for Kolchak. Supernatural on the WB, which I've enjoyed, is doing better than it deserves.

I saw some potential in Night Stalker. I wasn't expecting much after reading doom and gloom previews, but (and I can't believe I'm saying this), Stuart Townsend brought some force to the character of Kolchak.

I've seen you post this before. Do you have a point to make? I was a subscriber since the second issue, so I know it's not being published anymore. It's part of a larger company, so that's probably why they still have the site.
