Nine new images for the upcoming DreamWorks Animation-led sequel Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa have popped up online courtesy of a USA Today feature. Eric Darnell and Tom McGrath co-directed.

Plot Summary: All the loveable characters are back - Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo, King Julien, Maurice and the penguins - in "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa." Left marooned on the distant shores of Madagascar, the New Yorkers have hatched a plan so crazy it just might work. With military precision, the penguins have repaired an old crashed plane - sort of. Once aloft, this unlikely crew stays airborne just enough to make it to the wildest place of all - the vast plains of Africa itself - where our zoo-raised crew encounter species of their own kind for the very first time. While discovering their roots, they quickly realize the difference between the concrete jungle and the heart of Africa. Despite long-lost relatives, romantic rivals and scheming hunters, Africa seems like a "crack-a-lackin" great place... but is it better than their Central Park home?

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa will hit theaters November 7, 2008.

I am soooooooooo there with my chick. I loved the first one and know this one is going to be just as funny if not funnier. :-)

I better get busy and go watch the first one, I don't want to be lost when trying to follow the story of part 2.

I liked Madagascar, but really, the penguins stole the show. It is a smart move to keep them in this one.

Ka-BOOM!?

Edit: ...which is funny because after I wrote that, I saw the caption for slide 8 in the linked (above) photos which quotes J.Katzenberg, "We had to be careful that they didn't steal the show."

Cracked. Me. UP! The penguins and King Julien were frickin' hilarious.

Oh, I get it... They used the number "2" instead of the word "to". How clever! How original! I guess that will prove how original the movie's jokes will be.

After watching Madagascar for the millionth time, and then having the Disney copycat for another hundred; I am still saturated of those characters. And to think that Ice Age III is also on the way gives me nightmares (not that the movies are bad, its the nonstop repetition viewing). But it can't be as bad as Shrek 3, which even my kids only watched a couple times (they found it boring, yet watched it a couple times!!!!)... parenting is tough!

Oh! and let me guess, the moral of the story is that "home" is where your hearth/family is... NOT AGAIN!!!

I'm shocked at the warm reception this movie has with everybody here. I don't know why, but I found it tedious and unfunny, just trying to hop on the CGI Pixar bandwagon like so many other family films. Oh well...as long as people who paid to see it enjoyed it, then all is right with the world.

The first was EH! and I expect the second to EH! also. Ben Stiller: King of the Mediocre!
