Went to see this earlier today. Such a fun movie but there are prolonged portions of it where you want more Ninja action.

There's no pretense of it being something it's not, and they embrace what it it is, NINJA ASSASSIN!!! And it works. Great fun.

Ninja Assassin was awesome.   An anime come to life

I wasn't impressed. This movie proved something I noticed about McTeague while watching "V for Vendetta." This guy can't direct martial arts scenes. Too western for my taste. Way too much "shaky cam." I want to see the arse kickin' not be a part of it. I grew up just outside of Detroit. If I wanted to feel like I was part of the action, all I had to do was head East for about 10 mins and bam! All the mayhem I could ask for.

I like martial arts movies for the visual artistry and elegence of the choreography. If I can't tell what is going on, it's not a good martial arts film. Kill Bill  Vol 1 & 2, The Matrix films, hell, even Speed Racer are all examples of how those kinds of fight scenes should be shot. Pull the camera back and let me marvel at fighting.

I may be in the minority here. But, for me, this wasn't as good as it should have been. For me, it's a solid "C"

My husband dragged me to this movie.  Action movies are really not my thing.  At first I thought it was going to be a really obvious movie, and like the review says, you know it all in the first few minutes.  But the reversal of him being an assassin of ninjas was a surprise twist, and I found the movie quite touching.  I had a hard time with the level of blood, but if you like excitement, my heart and my husband's were still racing an hour later.  I'm surprised to say I really liked this movie.

Saw it last night, not bad, not great but being that there's not that many decent ninja movies out there in the first place, it'll do.

This movie was ridiculous.  I was hoping for some ninja version of the old "guilty pleasure Steven Seagal" movies of the early '90s.  Instead it slightly more than zero plot, and the blood flow was just silly.  This movie adheres to the anime rule that every human body contains between 13 and 25 gallons of blood.  Shuriken are so large, they should weigh 5lbs each, and they are thrown with enough force to bury themselves in the hood and windshield of a car from 50 ft away.  The main character raizo isn't invulnerable... he's just able to sustain injuries to his spine, abdomen, and head that would kill any human being 3 times over, and he still keeps fighting.  In fact, a little meditation and some weird finger gesticulations, and he heals from almost anything in seconds.

The fight scenes between the ninjas WAS pretty badass.  The mix of wire-fighting and bullet time worked well, especially mixed in with some CGI effects on their kusari-gamas (the chain weapons).  But even that sometimes just felt like I was watching Ninja Gaiden 2 on a big screen.  Not necessarily a BAD thing, but not worth $11 to see in the theater.

Guilty pleasure indeed, but it's not much of one.  At best, this movie is worth renting from NetFlix in a couple months.  At worst... wait til it's on HBO.

Ok I have to admit I was pretty damn disappointed and expected too much. Doesn't the studios or Producers actually watch the movie before it's released?? Doesn't the wachowskis care about quality anymore? I definitely didnt expect the greatest ninja movie ever from what i have been reading, but i definitely didnt expect no "straight to dvd B quality" type of movie.

SO many questions and WTF moments to even go through all of them. I am one of those guys that like to take the good things from a movie and accept some flaws here and there, but I must say this movie was total crap and just ridiculous. The Sho Kosugi scenes were definitely the best parts of the movie, but I say save ur money if you havent seen it yet. =T

Samson, I totally agree with your words on shaky cam.  It's why I hated the Bourne movies.  They used the shaky cam so we couldn't even tell if Matt Damon knew what the hell he was doing.  It seemed like a method to cover up someone who can't fight.  But then I read stories of how he went through all this rigorous krav maga training for those movies... and you can't see a damn thing of it.

Shaky cam should be banned from movies by law.  lol.

Ninja Assassin was a D

I dug it, I lol'd at every fight scene cuz the copious amounts of blood letting.  I personally enjoyed everything being so over the top.  I wasnt expecting a solid story even with JMS as the rewriter but it was good solid fun.
