Nintendo DS Unveiled

Yesterday at Nintendo's pre-E3 press conference, the curtain was finally lifted on the newest portable system from Nintendo. After such a long wait, the Nintendo DS was finally unveiled for everyone to see. And for those doubters, such as myself, Nintendo surely delivered.
The dual screened system will include two processors, both being able to use 3D capabilities, along with 16-channel sound and a rechargeable battery.
The lower screen of the Nintendo DS will offer PDA-like touch capabilities, using either your finger or the included stylus pen. This will enable users to activate an on-screen keyboard that is used to send text or draw directly on the screen. Also, the DS will come with a built in microphone that can be used for several gameplay elements. The microphone is sensitive to any sound, and the software can be written to recognize anything from hand-claps to full-on voice commands. Nintendo even believes that this will enable users to chat over the wireless internet. Yup, you read that right. The DS will be wireless, allowing for internet access and multiplayer without those blasted link cables.
There will also be two media bays. One will handle the new DS game cartridges, which hold one gigabyte of information. The second media port allows for backwards compatibility with all of the Game Boy Advance games.
"While others plan to let you go a little faster down the same roads you have always traveled, Nintendo plans to take you down incredible avenues you've never seen before," explains Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president, sales and marketing. "We understand the hand-held market better than anyone else, and Nintendo DS paves a new path of originality and success."
Already, more than 100 companies have received development kits and are planning titles for the DS. Currently, games in development by Nintendo include a new SUPER MARIO game, aptly named SUPER MARIO 64X4. Also, there will be a new MARIO KART, a version of ANIMAL CROSSING, a new METROID game, entitled METROID PRIME: HUNTERS, and a new WARIOWARE. Also look for a new SONIC from Sega, a new YU-GI-OH game from Konami, NEED FOR SPEED from EA, and DYNASTY WARRIORS from Koei.
