As the year came to a close, I (Captain Gordon) figured it was best to contact the team that created Disgaea, since they had many projects under way. From interviewing them during back at E3, they have continued to move forward towards their goals. They have come a long way from their original game, where their original dream branching out into different areas from videogames, like anime and Manga. Enclosed is a brief Q and A with a few questions that have been on many of the fan’s minds.
Gord: What are the current plans for bringing over the PSP version of Disgaea from Japan? Are there any set time lines for this to happen?
NIS: We haven’t finalized anything yet, but we are hoping to release it here in the states by summer of 07.
Gord: How can fans support the release of the game in North America?
NIS: The game will definitely come, so if we could keep the buzz going we should get a fair number of copies in the market. :)
Gord: Could you name a few of the new characters that I may be shocked about seeing?
NIS: Sorry, this is still a secret, so everyone’s going have to guess.
Gord: Since in the second Disgaea game featured a stack attack, I was wondering what other additions have been made to this game?
NIS: Our development team is still working on this and I’m not 100% sure, so if you could get back to me in a month or two, I may have more info.
Gord: Are there any updates on the release of an English version of the Disgaea anime? I am confident that a lot of fans are waiting for this.
NIS: Yes, the series is in recording right now. Geneon should be releasing it very soon.
Gord: With the release of Etna and Flonne figurines, can we expect a similar release of all of the characters in this format?
NIS: Cross your fingers on these. If we sell well, I’m sure we could make a whole new series of these large size figures!
Gord: Are there any plans for a Disgaea online tactics game?
NIS: It’s something that I have been begging the guys to make, but no luck yet. Hopefully they’ll listen soon.
Gord: Has Captain Gordon, and his assistant Jennifer, turned into monsters? In Disgaea 2 they each had weapons that only monsters could equip.
NIS: They haven’t turned in to monsters, but I’m not certain why they could equip the weapons. I’m going to have to ask the guys sometime…
Gord: How is the Manga coming along? Are there plans to sell the series on the NIS America website?
NIS: The first Disgaea manga is out and it’s on our site. The Disgaea 2 manga is under going localization and it will be released soon. Please look forward to them. :)
The future of NIS continues to look bright, as they continue to plough through the PS2 world. One may wonder when they will be ready for a leap onto the next generation systems, but I can rest assured that when they finally do... It will be in style.
