Director Christopher Nolan has denied the story about the Hong Kong harbor being too polluted to shoot scenes there for his upcoming sequel to the DARK KNIGHT, reports the AFP. Instead, he's saying it's a script change and it was entirely his decision. They will still be using the Hong Kong skyline in the film and Bale reported at a press conference that his Bats character will be on the top of Hong Kong's tallest building, the 90-story IFC2.

Nolan: "That was my decision, nothing to do with pollution. It was simply a script decision," said Nolan, "Once you see the finished film, you will understand why. As far as the pollution question goes, I honestly have no problem dumping movie stars in it."

THE DARK KNIGHT hits theaters July 18, 2008.

Sounds like a c.y.a. comment to me. I would not want to swim in that crap (literally).

Well, most Harbors in the world are not clean, due to heavy traffic, waste and other things, but China always seems to pump it up a step. There are so many boats, ships, junks, etc in those harbors, I don't know how the get around. Plus, everyone in China spits. On the ground, in the water. It is nasty. I am not saying people don't spit in the US or elsewhere, but it is on a whole other level there. I wouldn't get in that harbor if you payed me $10 million. Ever see the end "Raiders"? That's what would happen to you.

Dazzler, I think you're right. Sounds like someone that doesn't want to burn any bridges. Maybe for himself or on the studios behalf. China's government is very sensitive to anything they feel disparages the country. Especially with the Olympics coming up.

As soon as Christian Terrorist Bush is out of Office America's harbors will be cleaner until then the companies dumping pollution will keep terrorist activities going to increase profits at the expense of healthy lives.
