Zach Snyder for Superman!  Watchmen proved to me that any Superman movie made by Snyder would be epic with a capitol E-P-I-C.  Lex Luthor leads to Braniac leads to DarkSeid.  Watchmen had action and great drama.  It was emotional but kick ass enough to keep it going.  Plus 300 ruled.  A Snyder Superman movie would be bad ass.

I hope this is true.  Hopefully he can revitalize Superman as he did his JLA counterpart.

@fallensbane - wow, I thought that joke had run its course, but no, it turns out that its still hilarious.  No really, that's the funniest comment I've ever read.  Its so hard to type when I'm laughing this hard.

This is very good for DC, using Nolan to kick start new movies and putting him in the Faverau-type role is great.  It might be a little early for talk of the World's Finest but like the rest of you I cna't help but think about it and get excited by it!

One word: CROSSOVER!  If there is anytime that Batman can crossover with Superman its right now if their considering Nolan to supervise it.  If they dont I bet they'll be more keen to do it if The Avengers thing is succesful with Marvel...

Nolan is the last hope of the world!  At least with him we know we'll get some substance in the film unlike most of shi.t that gets made.

This is GR8 news!! Having Chris as sort of an overseer of DC's core film franchises is a real smart decision. Chris is smart enough to realize that Superman and The Batman are two different types of stories. He'll be DC's Jon "Faverou" (sorry if the spelling is off). As far as the "dark" issue - Tim Burton's treatment of Batman was way more "DARK" than Chris' on a bad day. I don't think that BB & TDK were that dark. Gritty? - definately. But I do agree with Wiseguy's point that Chris has taken Batman to a level that nothing fantastical can exist is his world now and I don't know how they (Chris/WB/DC) plan to come back from the place they've taken the character. Everyone knows they planned to do another joker story, but that's out now because of the untimely death of Heath Ledger; as Chris has stated no one else will be the Joker while he has the reigns of the franchise. One thing Superman isn't is gritty. But I also think you can have a balance, so I'm excited that he's been given "godfather" status, but I'll hold my judgments until I actually see real production movement.

Suits!!! I swear they have no clue. The Dark Knight was a phenomenal, yes. But a large part of that was Heath Ledgers performance as well as his death. The movie itself wasn’t that great. The entire part with Two-Face was irrelevant and could’ve waited for the sequel. Batman Begins was a much better movie.

Now these suits just jump on anything that is a success and try to emulate it. Avatar is a success, let’s make everything 3-D. That must be it. The Dark Knight is a success let’s make everything darker. Well, Batman and Superman are VERY different. The formula for one may not take for the other.

The real secret is having a creator behind it that has a PASSION for the project. Why are James Cameron movies hits when Titanic couldn’t be further from Avatar… because he has a passion for his projects.

Suits….stop trying to find the magic hit. It’s simple find the creators who have the passion.

Nolan is going to help knock this out of the park. Superman franchise needs a massive overhaul and I'm sure Nolan will do it. Even as a producer I'm sure he'll do an excellent job steering it in the right direction. And for those of you who think Nolan can only do dark and gritty, many good directors float through different genres and various types of films. Their talent doesn't change just the subject matter. I'm sure Nolan knows the difference in the tone and structure of batman and superman and he will bring it! This is awsome news.

Bad news for Wiseguy good news for everybody else I think.

I think it'll be bad news for DC fans in general. I hope I'm wrong. Of course if you guys want that "dark" Superman then maybe you guys will be happy cause Nolan hasn't proven to me that he can deliver a "Superman" movie. All he's done have been gritty, dark movies

Btw, let's stop giving Favreau all this credit. He definitely deserves a ton for Iron Man but not for all the Marvel movies, Kevin Feige is the man you Marvel movie fans need to be patting in the back, he's the gate keeper

I'm going to cast my vote in with those who aren't thrilled by this news.  I think Nolan is a brilliant filmmaker and storyteller, and I think his two Batman films are some of the best superhero movies EVER (and among the top tier for all mainstream movies from the past decade).  However, even his non-Batman work tends to be grittier than what Superman needs.  Superman belongs in a world of heightened reality and ideals.  His outfit consists of the three primary colors, people!  That tells you a great deal about the tone Superman needs to work effectively.

However, I do like that Nolan hasn't been signed to direct.  Hopefully what will happen is Nolan's behind-the-scenes work will consist of giving pointers about character development, narrative cohesion, and thematic integrity to a director and creative team who want to make a fun movie.  I thought Singer's biggest misstep was to take the character far too seriously (and his world too realistic).  Batman is a great character for gritty mediations on the nature of the human psyche; Superman's strength is his ability to embody our ideals and help us live out our fantasies.

And I agree, NO MORE LEX LUTHOR!  Let him scheme and manipulate if you want, but he needs a super-powered minion to Superman can actually fight!  We want to see Superman use those super powers to kick the snot out of someone!
