So the city got better for 8 years and now Bane is gonna eff shit up making Batman a necessity once again?

With the six-minute prologue for The Dark Knight Rises set to arrive in IMAX theaters this weekend---special screenings today at certain IMAX venues---director Christopher Nolan felt it would be a good time to sit down and discuss his final installment in the trilogy. The Los Angeles Times caught up with Nolan and asked him two key questions regarding the film. Why did he choose Bane as the villain and why jump forward a few years? Here's what Nolan had to say...
"I didn't know him very well," says Nolan of the comic book iteration of Bane. "David Goyer got me a bunch of stuff on him and we looked into him. I only knew him by name, I wasn't familiar with his back story. He's a very cool character. And getting an actor like Tom to take it on, you know you're going to get something very special. Tom is somebody who really knows how to put character into every gesture, every aspect of his physicality in the way that great actors can... With Bane, the physicality is the thing. With a good villain you need an archetype, you know, you need the extreme of some type of villainy. The Joker is obviously a particular archetype of diabolical, chaotic anarchy and has a devilish sense of humor. Bane, to me, is something we haven't dealt with in the films. We wanted to do something very different in this film. He's a primarily physical villain, he's a classic movie monster in a way — but with a terrific brain. I think he's a fascinating character. I think people are going to get a kick out of what we've done with him."
On jumping ahead eight years between last two installments:
"It will make a lot more sense to people when they see the film," Nolan explains. "But it's not a great mystery — it's the jumping-off point for the film — but it's hard for me to articulate it. I think the mood at the beginning of the film will make a lot of sense. If I had to express it thematically, I think what we're saying is that for Batman and Commissioner Gordon, there's a big sacrifice, a big compromise, at the end of the 'The Dark Knight' and for that to mean something, that sacrifice has to work and Gotham has to get better in a sense. They have to achieve something for the ending of that film — and the feeling at the end of that film — to have validity. Their sacrifice has to have meaning and it takes time to establish that and to show that, and that’s the primary reason we did that. It's a time period that is not so far ahead that we would have to do crazy makeup or anything — which I think would be distracting — but it gave them something to get their teeth into, particularly Christian in terms of [portraying] this guy who has been frozen in this moment in time with nowhere to go. He really has done an incredible job figuring out how to characterize that and express that."
The Dark Knight Rises into theaters July 20, 2012.

I think he was saying that Gotham will improve somehow as a result of Bats' sacrifice. Maybe he goes out, taking out Bane in the process.
Still think this one should have had more classic Bat villains like Riddler or Penguin.
I honestly get the feeling Bane will just be another Joker but on roids.
Bane is definitely not another Joker... I haven't seen the prologue yet but I have listened to it's audio - Bane's voice is awesome and completely, in my opinion, unexpected.
Nolan is actually thinking about his movie - he cares about the story and it's impact on the audience.
Instead of another summer popcorn flick w/ one liners, explosions, robots and butt heads saying "yo joe", which I will admit can be "fun", we get a well crafted and thought provoking dark drama that just happens to include Batman and Bane battling it out w/ brains and brawn.
Epic!
So, no breaking of the Bat at the beginning of the film. Interesting. I'm curious how they wrap it all up and give it some type of conclusion.
I doubt they would ever kill the Bat. Or, even have him retire. But, what about all the other characters that have been rumored. All we have heard about about is Bane and Catwoman. What about Ra's al Ghu, his daughter and how they tie that back into the story? Very curious.
Shnozaplot I totally agree. Nolan was actually trying to do something outside the norm if he used a flashy villian he would just be repeating what he did in the last movie. That's what makes Nolan different than the majority of big movie directors. Nolan is cleariy trying to pick the villian that was right for the story in order to end the trilogy. Nolan's version of Bane will be like an anti-batman so to speak. This is going to be so freakin' epic.
I'm also interested in what Scarecrow is doing in this movie... Obviously a small part again but maybe Bane uses the Fear Toxin...? I don't think Nolan will bring Ra's back to life. He may show a scene where possibly he did escape the train crash in BB. But it may just be a flash back of his younger self and then maybe some events before BB. Maybe he knows Bane before he even searched for Wayne...? Still not sure if his daughter is in it... that may be too many characters to juggle.
I'm really psyched about this film. Can't wait to see the first 6 minutes.
On another note, I think Mikey Rourke could've made a god Bane also. Not saying Tom isn't going to kick ass, because I think he will. I just think Rourke would've been a great choice, too.
I undestand your point SAMSON, but Iron Man 2 used him....so he may be used up, so to speak....
That sounds pretty cool. I was hoping that they way they ended TDK that things would be better in Gotham and not worse. That was smart in my opinion. Now Bane can come in and try to destroy what they accomplished. Bane has always been one of my favorite Batman characters besides him not being as big as he is in the comics i think that they will do a good job. I am happy they didn't do CGI for him, that would've made the movie less in my eyes. GO BANE!!!!!!!!!1
