All ready rebooting Bourne? LAME. Nuff said. America is truly backrupt of original movie ideas.

When Oscar-winning actor Jeremy Renner straps on the boots to lead Universal's spin-off, The Bourne Legacy, it seems he will be pitted against an Oscar-nominated actor in the fast-tracking action tale. Variety reports that Edward Norton has entered discussions to play the villain for the story which will veer off into new territory without the involvement of franchise star Matt Damon. Actress Rachel Weisz is also in talks to board the production which director Tony Gilroy is helming based on a screenplay he wrote.
As far as story is concerned, Gilroy explained the premise a few months back with:
"This is not a reboot or a recast or a prequel. No one's replacing Matt Damon. There will be a whole new hero, a whole new chapter...this is a stand-alone project," said Gilroy.
"The easiest way to think of it is an expansion or a reveal," Gilroy added. "Jason Bourne will not be in this film, but he's very much alive. What happened in the first three films is the trigger for what happens. I'm building a legend and an environment and a wider conspiracy... the world we're making enhances and advances and invites Jason Bourne's return [down the road]."
The Bourne Legacy arrives in theaters August 3, 2012.

No...not a reboot. A branch off the Bourne tree into a different area with different characters.
I would like to see Norton in the hero role. I think he could pull it off...amazing actor.
Renner is perfect for the HERO role NOT Norton. I think Norton plays a great bad guy see The Italian Job.
He can be a real good prick character.
Anyway glad this is not a reboot you can't replace MATT and the Jason Bourne character so cool they will bring him back at some point. Maybe him and Renner will team up and take care of some business.
At first I didn't like the reboot angle but once I found out this is a spin off I got excited. They land Norton will only add to it. I hope this works then you'll see Damon and Renner in a sequel together.
I'd rather see a reboot that actually follows the plot of the books. It's stupid that they are sticking to the titles of the books but not using a single ounce of story from them. As much as I enjoyed these films, the plotlines of the books were much more compelling.
I'm wondering what's so great about Renner. I mean I hope he kicks ass as Hawkeye but I don't see why folk think this guy is a headliner. And I doubt he'd take over this if he's suppose to take over the MI films.
Anyway back to Norton, if he's in it then it already has 1 positive going for itself.
I am fuzzy as to how they can call it The BOURNE Legacy without Bourne in it??? Only thing I can think of is that maybe "Bourne" is a name they gave to several agents, which is why they say they can kind of tie it in to the other movies,,,,that would be cool...another character with a similar kind of story arc.
Good idea. This movie is sounding better. Just don't wait 20 years to bring back Jason Bourne like Indiana Jones.
