@momitchell, they were explaining the Nova Corps which is very much set-up like the The Green Lantern Corps. (more or less an intergalactic police force).

I'm getting really worried about how Marvel is approaching the second phase of their movie line up. I wasn't that impressed with Ironman 3, but it had Robert Downy Jr. so it was entertaining and his acting made up for script and direction flaws. I'm really hoping the sequels to Thor and Captain America are awesome and the studio again uses either one of these characters to be the lynch pin of the second Avengers film. I know that it's said GoG will be the jump off point but so far what I'm hearing about GoG is really odd. Then again John C. Reily may pull a Michael Keaton and shock us all. Either way I'm going to try and reserve judgement....for now.

I thought the Iron Man trilogy was their version of slap dick humor. Doesn't surprise me, more silliness from Marvel. But only time will tell.

That.... is one weird casting decision.

I mean, Reilly can certainly do serious roles.  He did them in the past before he became more famous.  Remember Days of Thunder?  Though his wasn't a huge role.  And he was fantastic in Cyrus alongside Jonah Hill and the lovely Marisa Tomei (yum).  That movie kinda had a dark humor to it and definitely was more serious than any other role he's played in probably the last ten years.  And the movie got rave reviews along with Reilly's performance.  Probably the best performance he's given to date and it really displayed his range as an actor.  So I have no doubt he can pull off a serious role.  I just don't see him as a superhero is all.  But like others have said, we'll see how it shakes out.  I just feel like the more casual moviegoer who only knows him for his comedic turns will have trouble accepting him in this character's shoes.

Now that I got myself thinking about it I really wanna watch Cyrus again.  Might have to jump over to Amazon and order the blu-ray.

He's one of the few actors who can do comedy and drama equally well so I have no problem with this casting.

And I can see that DC fans have a movie that's not Batman not suck at the box office they believe their shit don't stink. Congratulations, Superman didn't drop a turd at the box office. Whoopie.

I was sold on JCR since he was announced.

Glad he's getting this role as opposed to Coulson of the cosmics :) as was first speculated.

But that means this may be his only film since this character's fate is doomed

Let's not forget JCR in Boogie Nights.

This movie will rock. It will be what Green Lantern should have been.

Yeah, John C. Reilly skyrocketed in popularity with comedies, especially those done with Will Ferrell, but come on...he has done plenty of dramatic work also - Gangs of New York, The Aviator, Magnolia, The Hours, The Thin Red LIne...hell, he was even good in Chicago, even if that role was part comic and part dramatic.  He can pull it off.

Nobody was able to see Adrian Brody as an action hero either, but I thought he did a great job in Predators.
