What They Say
This very special Collector’s Series DVD Boxset contains a bonus disc containing never-before-seen features!

Dragged through a time warp by a giant machine, Shu is thrust into a hellish future just as it explodes into war! He is caught in the carnage as a tyrant unleashes deadly force against a rebel army. But Shu is not alone… he is surrounded by courageous soldiers, a battalion of enslaved children, and enigmatic wanderers, each with their own fascinating story. Together, they face the ultimate challenge of survival in a world gone mad!

From the master of Japanese anime, Akitaroh Daichi (director, Jubei-chan the Ninja Girl & Elf Princess Rane)!

The Review!
Released with the final individual volume, CPM put out a box set containing all three discs as well as a disc full of extras.

The box packaging is probably what people weren’t expecting, since it is the type that can be folded down as opposed to a solid hard box, such as Love Hina or Macross. The box is thicker than the previous ones we’ve seen from Central Park Media in the past though. It predominantly uses the cover art from the first volume as well as the back cover art from the second volume. The overall look of the box is great with the muted oranges and the mix of yellows and dark browns and the indistinct look of the characters. It’s definitely an eye-catcher with the gold metallic ink used for the logo as well.

The disc of extras is pretty solid overall. It’s also in a clear keepcase like the rest of the series and features artwork of those in charge of Hellywood on the front while the back is the standard image of Shu and Lala Ru standing against the sunset. The reverse side provides some nice black and white artwork as well as a listing of what’s on the disc and production credits for both the Japanese and English version.

As for the extras on the disc itself, there’s some good stuff. We get both the English teaser trailer and the much longer full trailer. The sketch sections for the character/mechanical and background is fleshed out even more than they were on the individual discs. The original Japanese opening is also provided, which is interesting to see how CPM adapted its style for its version.

There’s two really interesting extras provided though. The first is episode 13 is on this disc as well, but done with multiangle so you can see storyboards for the entire episode. The brief bits done during the series were interesting, but to see them laid out for the entire episode is fascinating, and for those who really wonder how anime is put together, this is a great extra rarely seen in the US.

The other big extra is a 21 minute video that’s a Behind the Scenes look at the US side of production of the series with the voice actors, director and others involved. I was only able to skim some segments of it since I haven’t finished the series yet and it warns of massive spoilers, but I’ve enjoyed listening to these on other CPM discs and look forward to checking this one out in full soon.
