NYCC: Marvel Legends Action Figures

By: Robert T. Trate
Date: Wednesday, April 23, 2008

The Marvel Legends series has always had some highs and lows for me. The highs are the Series 1 Incredible Hulk and Series 2 Thing. The lows are obviously the concept that you have to buy lame heroes or villains in the line to build Galactus, Onslaught and Modok. I applaud the ingenuity but after a while they should just release those bigger characters on their own.

At the New York Comic Con I noticed a few figures that will be added to the line. Surprisingly enough a few were Target Exclusives. Wolverine from X-Force is a Target Exclusive and scheduled to be released in September of 2008.

Marvel Legends Action Figure: Wolverine(2008).

What initially grabbed my attention at the Marvel Legends was this rendition of the Silver Surfer from Planet Hulk. The gladiatorial Silver Savage features a cool assortment of weapons that brings a new rendition of character to life. Kudos to the person who posed the Surfer, they got it dead on. He will also be a Target Exclusive with a release date of September 2008.

Marvel Legends Action Figure: Silver Sage(2008).

In August 2008 look for Elektra in a two pack with none other than Ronin himself. Ronin has made his debut in both the 616 Marvel Universe and the Ultimate Universe. I just hope there will be variants with different heads featuring Echo or Clint Barton as Ronin.

Marvel Legends Action Figure: Ronin(2008).

Hulk Red written by Jeph Loeb and penciled by Ed McGuinness is shaping up to be one of the better storylines to come out about the big green guy this year. However I was a little shocked to see a figure of him already. Yet, how could anyone resist a figured based on Ed McGuinness art work (date for the figure unknown). This one will definatly be going into the collection.

I thought it's Silver Savage not Sage? I like the Red Hulk but they are really slow this year for releasing comics about him yet. Might not even be the Hulk.

It's hard to tell, but it appears that Wolvie's claws are actually longer than his forearms. Yeah, I know, it's just a toy... and a toy of a fictional character at that.

Are there guidelines for becoming a Mania writer?

These figs still look like shit!! Hasbro has sniped this line right thru the temple! They have not improved one bit since the god awful rubbish they coughed up in series 1. Give the line back to toybiz and make it respectable again.
