NYCC: The X-Files Panel Wrap Up
By: Robert T. TrateDate: Friday, April 25, 2008
Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz granted interviews to the press at the New York Comic Con last weekend. Truth be told, their panels and interviews at the New York Comic Con may have been the hardest part of all. Shrouded in mystery, their new film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, has fans and internet chat rooms buzzing. Why? Because everything from the plot to the characters and any connections to the TV series mythology has been kept in secret. Knowing that they would reveal very little, Carter and Spotnitz did divulge a few bits of information about their long awaited sequel.
After several questions that lead to Carter and Spotnitz to reply, “I don’t know and deny everything” they discussed that the X-Files was not a dark show and in essence was a show about letting the light in and finding the truth. They described their creation as fun and scary and believed that they had to bring it back for the hardcore fans.
The X-Files: I Want to Believe is a stand alone story that is free from mythology of the series and anyone could follow the film’s plot. Carter did reveal that the seeds for this story have been sewn throughout the series and hardcore fans will see that. Carter also mentioned that the X-Files Revelations DVD set would be a great refresher for the fans.
They did promise that this film is like nothing we have seen before. Their reasoning for keeping everything secret is to deliver a great ride and really scare us. Yet, at the heart of The X-Files: I Want to Believe there is message of hope.

Spotnitz promises a “really cool” Blu-Ray DVD for the film
D.C. Comics will launch a new age of X-Files comics coinciding with the film
The film will address Mulder and Scully’s personal issues as they pertain to the mythology of the series
Will there be another X-Files movie? Spotnitz stated that he approached this film as if this would be the last time we will see Mulder and Scully. However, both agreed that The X-Files: I Want to Believe could make a great foundation for a series of films. One way or another, the truth is out there and it waits for us on July 25th.
