O'Connor Kicks Off Martial-Arts Saga WARRIOR

By: Jarrod Sarafin
Date: Wednesday, August 13, 2008
Source: Variety

Gavin O'Connor (Pride and Glory) is ready to unleash a new martial-arts saga called Warrior at Lionsgate, reports Variety.  O'Connor had originally set the project at New Line before WB folded the studio into their property. Lionsgate has since acquired the script.  O’Connor wrote the script with A.M. Tambakis and Cliff Dorfman, and the helmer will produce with his brother, Greg O'Connor. Warrior starts shooting in January in Mexico and Pittsburgh.

O’Connor conceived the drama as a potential trilogy, and Lionsgate will also be involved in a mixed-martial-arts tournament dubbed Sparta that will be launched in connection with the movie.

Plot Concept: A mixed-martial-arts saga about two estranged brothers on a collision course to fight in a tournament for the heavyweight championship. O'Connor has partnered in the 16-man grand prix tournament project with UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture, who will play himself in the film.

I enjoyed Never Back Down, I've heard Redbelt is pretty good. Maybe there is hope for these MMA films, although I don't enjoy watching the real MMA, to homoerotic for my taste.

I always found Greco/Roman Wrestling to be the more homoerotic of the two. Wrestling has got 2 sweaty dudes wearing unitards rolling around on a mat until one of them gets "pinned". GAY. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Gay, that coming from the homo with the Gayest GI Joe of them all as an ICON, Lady Jaye was just a cover!!!
