October 14 October 20: The Season's First Casualties

And the winner is... Us.
ABC has pulled the plug on THAT WAS THEN, making it the first new show to get its walking papers.
Of course, ABC execs are saying that the '80s show is just on "hiatus," but trust me, "hiatus" is a nice way of saying "cancelled." Kinda like when your parents told you that your dog ran away. Guess what? Rex didn't runaway. He died. He went on hiatus. He got cancelled.
Also getting a pink slip is PUSH, NEVADA, but ABC is giving it some time to wrap up its whole contest thing. The last episode (making it a grand total of seven) airs October 24.
I'm not crying over either of these cancellations. I tell you what though, I will cry tears of joy when GOOD MORNING MIAMI and IN-LAWS get the axe. Honestly, I've seen sitcoms on UPN that were funnier.
Thank you everybody. I'll be at the Ha-Ha Hole all this week. Don't drink and drive. Tip the waitstaff. Try the veal.
So, I predict that FIREFLY will be the next to go, and I will be sad about that one. I think the show is getting better and better with each episode. Or it could be HAUNTED, which has the dubious honor of the being the lowest rated new drama of the season. Way to make a name for yourself HAUNTED.
Yeah, so anyway, let me know what you think. E-mail it to me at RedSonia@cinescape.com.
Now, let me break down the week for you. Oh, and as always, check your local listings.
Monday, october 14
Delia wonders about the existence of God after a classmate tells her that he doesn't believe in a higher power in tonight's all-new EVERWOOD (WB, 9 p.m.). Hey Delia! That kid is right.
A dead man with a slit throat and a partially burned face is discovered on a Miami beach in tonight's all-new CSI: MIAMI (CBS, 10 p.m.). I said it before and I'll say it again, speedos are not sexy.
Fox is giving everyone a second chance to check out the pilot episodes of FIREFLY at 8 p.m. and FASTLANE at 9 p.m. So if you missed them the first time, definitely don't miss this time, stupid.

Fox is giving you a second chance to check out the first episode of JOHN DOE at 9 p.m.
WeDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16
The slow-motion-walkin,' leather pants-wearin' boys cook up a sting for a trio of jewel-heisting, motorcycle-riding hotties in this repeat of FASTLANE (Fox, 9 p.m.).
In an episode that is sure to make me cry, Archer's dog gets sick in tonight's all-new ENTERPRISE (UPN, 8 p.m.).

THURSDAY, october 17
A murder during the San Francisco Marathon leads Monk to suspect a participant in the race in tonight's MONK (ABC, 8 p.m.). I would've guessed heart attack, but that's why he's a detective and I'm the TV watching girl.
Turk clashes with a female surgeon in tonight's all-new SCRUBS (NBC, 8:30 p.m.).

Grissom suspects murder, not suicide, when the body of a dwarf is found hanging from a rope high above a stage in a casino hotel where a convention of little people is being held in tonight's all-new CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (CBS, 9 p.m.). I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

The discovery of three dead bodies leaves investigators with few clues to identify the bodies or the killer in tonight's all-new HOMICIDE ROBBERY DIVISION (CBS, 10 p.m.). Why is it that dead bodies never carry ID with them and murderers never leave business cards? Our society is soooo unsophisticated.
