@Elbaz. Agreed. I just hope that with the 8 months or so between Marvel films, they keep their momentum and Ant-man isn't overlooked by major audiences, when it get's released.

Casting news next! lol

Abrams is a good choice. We're lucky it wasn't Singer or Nolan. :)

As for casting. Abrams maybe should go back to his old roots. If he is looking for a solid female lead and no doubt the children of Han/Leia (since Ford and Fisher will be back) then how about Jennifer Garner? She was great in Alias and shows she can kick butt. Elektra sucked but I think it was the writer/director's fault on this one. She also needs a good career boost. Since Affleck was in the running for the directing job, maybe he would want his Mrs to be an ass kicking jedi?

Can't wait for Star Trek, suck it haters, and now Star Wars! JJ is gonna bring it and the end product is going to be nothing short of epic.

It will be interesting to see how Star Wars looks with blue flares and bruery backgrounds

Hell ya!

@ElBaz13 - If they are going for the female lead then it has to be someone young enough to be Luke's daughter. Garner would have been perfect, then years ago. Someone younger is needed for this role.
I still say that Vaughn's idea for Chloe Moretz is the best yet. Great actress, kicks ass, and is the right age. Vaughn must have seen the script to get ideas like those in his head.

@misterpeed - Also, the lens flare joke was dead days ago. Stop beating the poor dead horse. Oh wait, this is the Internet where dead stupid meme's live forever.

Yeah, you need to clear up that confliction, Wise.  Think about it - even as much as I liked his Star Trek, I can understand to a degree why some people didn't like it...he's not a Trek fan, so therefore he did what he wanted to mixed reactions.  He IS, however, a big Speilberg fan...try telling me that Super 8 is not a huge homage to Speilberg.  The man shines when he's doing something he's a fan of...I don't see him doing anything but making Star Wars movies that 70's and 80's George Lucas would have been proud of.

Funny that JJ was not a fan of Trek but he is of Wars....I can see him leaving Trek like a hoe in the night.

My big confliction is that I think they went with a safe choice. It's an uninspired lazy choice IMO.

I say this having really dug what he did with ST but that franchise was dead and even in its conituity the main characters were old or dead. So they rebooted it instead of expanding on it. Then it was rebooted in the most sophomoric way possible, again I loved it because  staying with the same characters was the goal  while not undoing any of its continuity. I would've preferred something akin to "the untold adventures" all in the original timeline with the roles simply recast but that's neither here nor there

Anyway outside of Star Trek and MI3 I haven't dug JJ's works much. And even these 2 didn't blow me over, they won me over but there wasn't a "wow" factor  to either one for me.

JJ is a competent director so I have no doubt he'll do a damn good job.

IMO the biggest BIGGEST plus this has going is the writers involved. JJ needs only direct.

OK this all sounds like I hate JJ and all that but no not the case, I just find him to be a safe option. Of course he only has a limited amount of films to his credit so it could be that he hasn't peaked yet

Another thing that struck me was the fact that it appears they had to chase this guy down and win him over. Maybe he had no ideas or vision of what another sequel may entail. Then maybe after showing him a first draft that helped ease any apprehensions on his side.

I would've rather went with another competent director, someone fresher, hungry and with a clear vision. Someone that was knocking my door down because they knew just where and how to take this franchise to a new level. Instead of JJ who may be too scared to mess up

This would be as lazy as DC hiring Whedon to direct their JL film

But hey that's just this guy's opinion and I'll still have fingers crossed and hoping for an awesome result
