JJ as a safe choice?  Really?  I won't deny there might have been a better option out there but we are talking about a guy on top of his game right now.  It's better than Lucas writing and directing it himself.  I'll take this gamble over the prequels any day of the week. 

Though I don't like using Super 8 as an example of how good SW can be.  That movie had it's moments wrecked by the group hug at the end of the movie while the big alien spaceship is taking off behind them.  I pray we don't have any moments like that in SW.

Regardless of all the hate for the prequels I love them, sans JarJar that is and not too crazy about the midichlorian, that should've left an open question or just something supernatural.

I watch them every time I'm channel surfing and either one is on. And as a matter of fact I've grown more keen on them as time has gone on.

As for Ep.7 it's the writers that give me the greatest hope and the fact that JJ is competent enough not to screw it up. Heck he may even improve on it but when I say safe I mean someone that won't take chances, one that IMO at least up to right now hasn't wowed me with his vision. Hey I may change my tune after this new ST film, I'm talking as of this moment.

 Because there is only ONE director in Hollywood that can produce sci fi films.  Wasn't impressed with his ST.  Most of his good work has been as a TV producer.  Sad that he is the only name in the hat, which means they are going after whoever is popular at the moment.  I don't like the crossing over from one completely different franchise (which he missed the boat) to an even more beloved franchise.  

I hope George has come up with a great plot for the new trilogy.

Everyone is always full of complaints about his directing and scriptwriting but his plots and concepts are excellent IMHO. All the trilogies have been based on archteypal/mythological storylines that have been used in all cultures around the world because they resonate with everyone's subconscious.

The King Arthur story was used in the original trilogy. The story of a youth who wants more from life and feels different from others and finds out that he actually is, and with the help of a wise teacher learns the wonderful and burdensome responsiblities of being magical. This basic idea has been used in everything from Harry Potter to the X-Men.

Here's hoping he's come up with another great mythos to explore and with the help of great wirters and a great director can make this a new classic.

"It really is an incredible thing, It's wildly surreal. It's obviously way too early to talk specifics, but I'm excited to actually start it."

Abrams did give his goal for the film in an interview with The Huffington Post.

"I can just say what I want to do: I want to do the fans proud. I want to make sure the story is something that touches people. And we're just getting started. I'm very excited."

He is a fan and will do us proud.  Nuff said.

I am thrilled that JJ is taking the helm for my beloved Star Wars, but to think how many years ago it was when the hardcore SW fans held such resentment for ST and vise versa.  Now we have the man with some of the best cinema and television under his belt I have ever seen resuurect BOTH. 

Now all I have to do is resist camping out in front of the theater for two years.  Two years for a new star wars seems like a dream.  It is a good time to be a SW ST Marvel Whovian thats for sure.
