The Review!
With the variety of hentai titles to come out in the US over the past 10 years, Ogenki Clinic in any form has to be one of the strangest. And I can still say that even after watching all of Cool Devices.

The major flaw in this release is in the audio. While the English audio track is a decent stereo mix, it's lack of a Japanese track (apparently to do with the Japanese licensor not allowing the original language track) really hinders it. We'll get into that a bit later.

The video, though from 1991, looks pretty good. It's not as fluid or vibrant as a lot of more recent shows, but it holds up well under this transfer. I "stress tested" it under my Apex player and uncalibrated TV that tends to show more artifacting and it still looked good.

The packaging is fairly decent, but the cover art really doesn't do anything for me. I don't know how much material was available to use as a cover, but I think some close up pictures of faces and whatnot might have worked better. Granted this version does show you pretty well what's inside.

The menus are pretty basic and basically identicle to almost all of their other releases except with some different artwork and no language selection menus. Selections are accessed quickly though and nothing went wrong.

As mentioned above, the lack of the Japanese language track is what really hurts this release. Over the years of watching a lot of varying levels of hentai titles (and not being ashamed to admit it), the one thing that's almost always constant is the poor performances of the English voice actors for shows like these. They just never seem to get the same kind of enthusiasm that the Japanese actresses fake so well. While Ogenki Clinic Adventures didn't change my opinion of this all that much, I do have to admit that as time went on, the main characters did get into their roles more comfortably and did a better job. Some of the minor characters were just plain bad, such as the first blonde woman, but the main nurse Ruko was doing pretty good by the second full episode.

But even for hentai, Ogenki Clinic goes in a different direction than a lot of things brought over. A lot of hentai does have well endowed women, but this show really takes it to the extreme with pipe cleaner ankles and completely unnatural breast sizes. That alone will turn a lot of people off to this show, and it pretty much does it to me.

What really saves this show as I watched all of it was the bizareness of the situations and the sheer amount of humor in it. While plenty of hentai is definitely laughable, this one produces some of the best laughs intentionally. It knows what it is and delights in it.

There are going to be a lot of extreme opinions about this show. Some will love it while the majority will hate it. As much as I enjoyed it as it went on, I really have to wonder why this title was pushed up ahead of so many others. CPM has quite a library and I'd personally much rather have had a nice little Here is Greenwood set instead of this. The only thing I can figure is that without it having subtitles, it was easy to churn it out while getting things set for the three big box sets due out this fall.

Oh, and here's an unadvertised selling point for the disc; it's a great party game for a mixed group who are real comfortable with each other. Simply pick an order, let the first person pop the disc in and hit random. Let that person then pick someone to enact the scene with and then let the next person go... fun for all!
