Peorth vs. Belldandy in the Triple Challenge of the Goddesses!

Adaptation: Dana Lewis and Toren Smith

What They Say
Ever since a cosmic phone call brought the literal young goddess Belldandy into college student Keiichi's residence, his personal life has been turned upside-down, sideways, and sometimes even into strange dimensions! Maybe you think Peorth couldn't cause any more trouble - well, think again! Determined to provide Keiichi "better service" than Belldandy, she's dragging him out on a date . . . having studied human mating customs through shojo manga! But what is the secret slight from long ago that truly drives Peorth's efforts against her rival?

The Review!
Peorth can't return to heaven until she fulfills Keiichi's deepest wish, what his wish is exactly is obvious if you are a guy.  The only reason Belldandy hasn't done it is Keiichi hasn't asked.  He obviously wants to have a full relationship with Belldandy, but he can't even push their relationship into the boyfriend/girlfriend phase.  It is questionable as to whether Keiichi keeps their relationship at a standstill because he isn't man enough or would feel wrong 'commanding' his goddess to sleep with him.  Either way, a man has needs and Peorth is here to meet those needs.

Keiichi is a bit of an enigma to Peorth.  In the past, every man she appeared before instantly fell in love with her, and then she fulfilled their wish and returned to heaven.  Being an intelligent goddess, she knows she will have to research how to seduce Keiichi.  She has already seen his dirty magazines, but none of her advances in that way has proved fruitful.  So, after discovering Skuld's shoujo manga, she begins to read every volume she can to better determine how to date as couples do these days.  Maybe not the best plan, but nothing else has worked so far.  Later on, her reading of yaoi creates a funny chapter when she misinterprets Keiichi's friendship with Tamiya.

Quickly realizing that she needs to go on a one on one date, Peorth asks Keiichi out and he gives in.  Those more familiar with the anime will recognize the date story from the second season of the television series.  Of course, Peorth doesn't end up on a date without the other goddesses around and her date slowly falls apart.  They don't see the romantic movie she wants, the aquarium is full of gross mollusks, and the pool scene again ends with Belldandy having the upper hand.  Oh, and a little mouth-to-mouth between the two of them.

Not only has Peorth been unsuccessful at seducing Keiichi, but she also holds a grudge against Belldandy for something that happened in their past.  All this angst finally builds until Peorth challenges Belldandy to the Triple Challenge of the Goddesses.  Urd says this is a sacred battle between goddesses, but that it doesn't get used often anymore.  Which goddess will be more battle plan savvy?  Which goddess will have the greater skill?  And why don't goddesses use this battle very much anymore?

In Summary:
Peorth hasn't been able to grant Keiichi's wish, but that doesn't mean she isn't enjoying her time on Earth.  She reads Skuld's manga, enjoys making Keiichi squirm, and generally looks for any chance to show up Belldandy.  Normally I wouldn't be a fan of a goddess that enjoys tormenting Belldandy, but Peorth is kind of the sex goddess, so she gets a free pass.  Whether pro Peorth or not, this is another great volume.  There is plenty of humor, some nice character development between Peorth and Belldandy as they reveal something that happened in their past, and there are numerous two-page illustrations.  I can't forget to mention this volume has another six pages in color.  Overall a great volume in a greatly entertaining series.
