Olivia Williams (THE SIXTH SENSE, RUSHMORE) has been talking about her work in the World War II era supernatural thriller, BELOW.
While talking to Empire Online, the actress spoke of the film to come, saying, "I play Nurse Claire Page. It's set in the 1940s, so women weren't generally military doctors or naval doctors at that stage."
The film, directed by David Twohy (PITCH BLACK) with a script by Darren Aronofsky, tells the story of a haunted submarine that is used on a rescue mission. After picking up Williams' character, the sub encounters German battleships intent on sinking it. Adding to the suspense are the sub's seeming restless spirits who also seem to be intent on getting the ship permanently sunk.
Regarding the film's suggested supernatural elements, Williams says, "It's got a supernatural twist to it. You're never quite sure whether what's happening is real or whether it's oxygen-deprivation."
