From previous reports, we know that Orci, Kurtzman and Bay were trying to fit the classic transformer Soundwave into the sequel since he was omitted from original installment. That cameo has been confirmed by the team. Now, screenwriter Roberto Orci has been quoted saying that 20 robots will be featured in this high octane sequel, coming up to at least 10 robots per side (Autobots and Decepticons). He made the announcement via Don Murphy's messageboards. There's also shooting details below about Team Transformers doing work at Penn State, where we know it's likely the college scenes will be shot for Shia's Sam Witwicky character.
The Daily Pennsylvanian is saying that filming will take place on the Penn campus, including a previously-mentioned location.
University spokeswoman Lori Doyle explained that filming would tentatively begin around June 12 with scenes using the exterior of the Quad.
According to Doyle, the extensive project is expected to involve about 200 people, 25 tractor-trailer trucks and cranes.
"They have their own landscaping people, they bring in their own catering, it's a huge operation," she said.
In addition, scenes will be shot at Psi Upsilon Tau fraternity house, better known as "The Castle," and possibly on Locust Walk and Spruce Street, Doyle said.
Transformers 2 will star Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro and Isabel Lucas. It should be hitting theaters June 26, 2009.
