Orci Says 20 Robots Battling in TRANSFORMERS 2

From previous reports, we know that Orci, Kurtzman and Bay were trying to fit the classic transformer Soundwave into the sequel since he was omitted from original installment. That cameo has been confirmed by the team. Now, screenwriter Roberto Orci has been quoted saying that 20 robots will be featured in this high octane sequel, coming up to at least 10 robots per side (Autobots and Decepticons). He made the announcement via Don Murphy's messageboards. There's also shooting details below about Team Transformers doing work at Penn State, where we know it's likely the college scenes will be shot for Shia's Sam Witwicky character.

The Daily Pennsylvanian is saying that filming will take place on the Penn campus, including a previously-mentioned location.

University spokeswoman Lori Doyle explained that filming would tentatively begin around June 12 with scenes using the exterior of the Quad.

According to Doyle, the extensive project is expected to involve about 200 people, 25 tractor-trailer trucks and cranes.

"They have their own landscaping people, they bring in their own catering, it's a huge operation," she said.

In addition, scenes will be shot at Psi Upsilon Tau fraternity house, better known as "The Castle," and possibly on Locust Walk and Spruce Street, Doyle said.

Transformers 2
will star Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro and Isabel Lucas. It should be hitting theaters June 26, 2009.

Wow...that's a lot of Transformers. I guess we can kiss character development of the robots goodbye.

Yes Taydor you are absolutely right, I bet they are going as well as the first one more focus on the human characters than the robots...They are almost bringing all the main human characters back as we can see....I hope this does not turn into a Mortal Kombat 2 thing...Since they are alredy saying the bad word "CAMEO"=A few seconds in the movie..That Sucks!!! I want to see more on the Robots and their stuff and not the humans junk. Too many robots in the film, unless the movie is gonna be like 3 hours long.

Less Humans and more Robots! God I hate dopey eyed Shia LaBlah!

If people bitch enough about it, it might happen.

I just hope they slow the action and tranforming sequences somewhat so the viewers can see what's happening. I liked the first in spite of its flaws, so if they go along the same lines I won't be too upset. I can deal with an all-out action film with no depth or substance every now and then. As long as it is all action and fun.

Character development of the robots? lol I'm really not too worried about how the robots feel or why I should like one robot vs another. If you are a transformer fan you either like the autobots or the decepticons. Not to mention we all know what each side is about, i dont need to know about every robots individual feelings and motivation. All we need to worry about is the motivation of the "team" of robots.

"In spite of its flaws"? Any movie has its small or big flaws. Not many movies are perfect. Except IRON MAN..lol j/k (although it was pretty close) But i digress...Tranformers was A GREAT sci-fi movie, and who ever doesnt agree, you are either not a sci-fi/transformers fan or you just need to get out of your mothers basement more often..lol Cant wait for Transformers 2!

Question: Since they are already in production (Transformers 2) and all contracts have been signed, will the impending actors strike effect this movie? Or will they just stop production in its tracks once it (if it) happens?

I was going to say the same thing Darkknight....I am paying to see Michael Bay make me believe that giant robots are real and blowing up massive amounts of shit,,,,and MB delivers on that....I am glad they are bringing back the original cast...I have read that a big battle scene will be taking place in Las Vegas, but I think that may be Bogus...although, I hope it does...

I just wanna know if Omega Supreme is going to make a cameo. That big city thing was bad ass... took like, 24 D batteries to make to work or something. But yeah, a little backstory on the damn robots would be nice.

As far as Shia goes, eh... the kid can act. Yeah, I can see where he could get on people's nerves, but there are still worse actors being thrown down our throats lately. Plus the kid has a good bio... I, Robot, Indy4, Transformers 1/2... just to start.

My only concern with having that many Transformers in the movie is that the designs may get confusing. It was difficult enough keeping track of who was who in the first movie. The Decepticons were particularly tough to follow.

I enjoyed the first movie quite a bit, and I'm in the same boat as Whiskey. Big robots + Explosions = Win.

Toph75 • Jun 02, 2008, 08:25am •
I agree with chirop1. More robots are OK but make them distinct. It was darn near impossible to tell some of the Decepticons apart.

I have to say, I did have a little trouble following who was who in the first movie. However, I really didn't care. As long as there were giant fucking robots beating the shit out of other giant fucking robots, I was happy. Oh, and Megan Fox was incredibly hot. GFR + MF = Happy fft.
