The creators of No Ordinary Family realize that the days of this freshman series are numbered, so they’re starting to move this show forward (too little, too late), which they do in a very clumsy way by having Jim (Michael Chiklis) trying to solve a case before Stephanie (Julie Benz) does. This takes up a good chunk of the episode – not to mention wears thin – before things start to (finally!) advance.
And things do advance as Stephanie and Jim learn Dr. Dayton King (Stephen Collins) is the person behind the creation of super-powered individuals. In turn, Dr. King learns that Stephanie has super-powers – about bloody time!
Daphne (Kay Panabaker) is learning to use her telepathic powers to control minds and not just read them. She changes Jim’s mind when he punishes her. This is the same trick Joshua the Watcher (Josh Stewart) uses on Katie (Autumn Reese) when she learns who he truly is. Very repetitive.
Given how this show is trying to juggle being a family-friendly show and having an overall mythology with some dark elements has been very awkward throughout its entirety. The shame of it is it has good actors: Chiklis, Benz, and Collins, all of whom have experience with the sci-fi genre (Chiklis was the best part in the two forgettable Fantastic Four movies; Benz was Darla on Buffy the Vampire SlayerandAngel, two shows that are deeply missed; and Collins was in 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture and the short-lived Tales of the Gold Monkey) who are trying real hard, but it’s just not working.
So you're the same dude that keeps giving that P.O.S. show "V" B ratings, while a show like this one (you know, one with a plot and characters that you actually care about) get a D rating. Do you know how to do an unbiased review? Kind of like a break down that keeps personal choice out of the equation? I know it may be out of your Mania pay grade to think like that, but it would help even out your abysmal rating system.
