The Original Battle Royal

Aliens vs. Predator – Requiem arrives on DVD today. The meeting of two monsters squaring off toe to toe is far from an original concept. If we look back we will see a time before there was “vs.” movies, a time when monsters would “meet” each other. Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943) was the Alien vs. Predator of its day. The film was the fifth installment of the (then) ongoing Frankenstein soap opera. It was a shot in the arm to a dying series. Bela Lugosi would accept the role of the monster and Lon Chaney Jr. would return with his Wolf Man. Love it or hate it, the film is still an old Hollywood gem that continues to shine. It is also one of the first films where a studio tried to salvage a franchise with a “meet” concept. Cut numerous scenes that would pass from fact to legend and screw with both characters continuity so that their meeting could transpire. Does that sound familiar?

These films are still fun. Sure there are not as great as they could/ should be but they nonetheless give us something to bitch about. It is not all that often when “what if” becomes a reality.

...and only five years later Universal put together Lon Chaney, Bela Lugosi, Glenn Strange and the voice of Vincent Price for the classic comedy "Bud Abbott Lou Costello Meet Frankenstein." Still one of the most enduring comedies.

Isn't that Alien Nation Movie collection already out cause I bought it last year? Maybe Best Buy had exclusive rights to it for a year I guess as if my memory serves me it said on the package "Best Buy Exclusive."

BTW, COULD WE PLEASE GET SOME FREAKIN' SUBTITLES ON THE MAIN PAGE THAT TELLS US THAT THE ARTICLE IS REGULAR NEWS, THE DVD SHOPPING BAG, TV WASTELAND, ETC.!!

Gotta say...I'm really not liking this site redesign.
