FILM THREAT notes that a restored version of Andrei Tarkovsky's original 1972 version of SOLARIS will be showing at the Nuart Theater in L. A. November 22-28.

The film, which won the Special Jury Prize at Cannes in 1972, didn't make it to the U. S. until 1976. That version was without 35 minutes cut by an unauthorized editor working for the film's U. S. distributor. Later distributions were cut further and shown with "cannibalized subtitles."

The film was restored to its' full 167 minute length in a 1989 release. The 2002 reissue uses a "new and more articulate translation."
