Box Office: BANGKOK Wins Another Slow Weekend - Sep 07, 2008 - 02:17pm
I think Righteous Kill will bomb. the two leads haven't been in anything good since Heat (probably what prompted them to reunite), and they are totally pimping this film like it was made by Scorsese!! Check the commercials: Actor voiceover/narration, check. Rolling Stones music, check. Graphics reminiscent of The Departed, check. It looks and smells like a wannabe.

HEAVY METAL is Alive Again for Fincher - Sep 04, 2008 - 03:38am
I'm surprised Fincher doesn't have more clout. Until he gets that elusive box office smash, he'll still be wrestling with the Studios. I think running time was only an issue with Zodiac, but all his films have been decent (save Alien3).

Columbia and Marvel Considering GHOST RIDER 2? - Sep 04, 2008 - 03:32am
Because of TDK, every studio is taking a closer look at their comics properties, especially those that are deemed 'dark'. And supposedly, Ghost Rider fits that bill, even though I didn't get that impression watching the first film. With the origin out of the way, a sequel could really let loose, but count me out.

Paramount Rolling Out New TRANSFORMERS 2 Featurettes - Sep 04, 2008 - 03:28am
I enjoyed both videos. The second was awesome with the extended Ironhide sequence (you'll see what I mean)

Box Office Update: THUNDER Strikes Twice at B.O. - Aug 24, 2008 - 02:33pm
Box Office Report Lite?

Iron Man Disses The DARK KNIGHT - Aug 15, 2008 - 05:29pm
It's awesome that I don't know where Downey ends and Stark begins. Good on him for being a fanboy, and so aligned with his franchise. I think theres plenty of room for both franchises. I want to see more films like Iron Man and TDK, on a monthly basis if possiblle!!

Box Office: DARK KNIGHT Takes Down The Pineapple - Aug 10, 2008 - 01:38pm
I predict Tropic Thunder will pull in about 35 million, due to its buzz and the R rating. I think it will take 1st place. I believe Dark Knight will slip to second, Pineapple Express will land in third. Star Wars: The Clone Wars doesn't have that 'Wow' factor, and I think audiences are weary of Lucas' last 3 Star Wars outings. Clone Wars retreads familiar ground. Plus the fanboys know this will hit the tube in a few months. I predict a 'Speed Racer' opening of 20 million at best.

The Manic Maniac: R.I.P. Watchmen? - Aug 07, 2008 - 09:21am
How can you spoil the Watchmen? They had the ONE saga, and it was illustrated in a film-like narrative, and people who give a damn know what happens inside and out, and who all the major players are. The film looks to be a very faithful adaptation, so there will be little in the way of surprise. its all about the execution, and how entertaining the end product will be. The Dark Knight had generations of stories and characters to draw upon, so anything could have played out. If Snyder announced a new ending, then I might avoid spoilers.

Box Office: KNIGHT Slides Past The Mummy - Aug 03, 2008 - 09:06pm
I am glad TDK has had amazing success -- this will help shape the direction of WB's superhero franchises, and other studios are also taking notice (Marvel has turned the tide, but they could take a few pointers). I believe they (studios) will all start to swing for the fences, instead of molding films based on the whims of studio heads and market research (I shudder to think what would have happened if Kevin Smith's Superman saw the light of day). I'm sure the WB is kicking themselves for not having a Superman film to promote for next summer, the ideal 3-year turnaround. Especially to build on TDK...so the Watchmen will stand to benefit instead (looking forward to it). They could fast-track one now for a Christmas 09 release, as I Am Legend has proved there is money to be made at that time. Damnit I should con my way into a studio like Maebe Bluth!

SDCC: Pixar Unveils UP at the Con - Jul 28, 2008 - 09:02am
I don't think Pixar can do any wrong. John Lasseter could emerge from a brothel, covered in somebody else's blood, and we would all go: "Oh, Jooohn! You run along now, y'hear?" I guess Pixar will have a movie every summer. Tradition is good, but it becomes less of an event, IMHO. I'd prefer an Incredibles 2 to a Cars 2, but thats my only complaint.

SDCC: Redband Trailer for QUARANTINE - Jul 28, 2008 - 08:52am
I think scriptwriters are using a copy/cut/paste approach to movie plots. Found footage to dramatically play out events? Check. Lets quarantine and cut off all communications to eliminate plausibility? Check. We'll also have this extremely convenient setup, as News stations still give a damn about Fire Dept going-ons in this day and age. So contrived. I'll pass.

Singer Takes to the Future with FORMULA - Jul 25, 2008 - 06:29am
raulendymion -- plus the premise of Valkyrie is not very engaging. Everyone knows the outcome. There have been some 'what if' scenarios regarding Hitler attempted in film and TV and those were a bit intriguing but forgettable. But hey I was wrong before...I thought Titanic would bomb, because of its budget and obvious not-so-secret climax.

Legendary Backing Up GEARS OF WAR - Jul 25, 2008 - 04:35am
I'm of the mind that video game movies don't work because people would rather be playing them. Even game cutscenes have minimal appeal. I don't buy games because of their story. If the story and characters were the draw, I'd avoid Metal Gear Solid for the former, and Gears of War for the latter. Resident Evil films worked because they were zombie films, the games already mirrored a genre. There aren't many other success stories (Blame Paul W.S. Anderson and Uwe Boll, I guess).

Singer Takes to the Future with FORMULA - Jul 25, 2008 - 04:28am
Hey Singer..you've been bitch-slapped by Nolan. Time to bring Man of Steel to the next level, if you can ignore your Nazi fetish for awhile. I have a feeling the WB would green-light TDK3 before Superman 2 at this rate. And if Valkyrie bombs (which is looking more and more likely), give the reins to someone else!!

Darren Aronofsky Leading ROBOCOP - Jul 25, 2008 - 04:24am
Yes I can see it now: Robocop hallucinating in the form of a montage, in which a number of artistic yet provocative shots play out in a messy editing style. Deep. Its just not Verhoeven. Robocop had this biting commentary on 80's consumerism and narcissism. It was right for the time. Other iterations since have been diluted. To see Aronofsky attempt a genre/action/sci-fi/superhero film would be weird. I'd agree it can't be worse that 2 or 3 (as Bmfstunner said), but its like having Michael Bay direct an arthouse flick-- a really odd fit. I'm guessing he's going for that Christopher Nolan vibe.

SDCC Update: TRON 2 Footage Online - Jul 25, 2008 - 04:12am
Its sounding like this was not footage from the film, but a teaser comprised of original material. Like a Pixar teaser. But hey, its a step in the right direction. Hopefully it goes before cameras soon. I look forward to seeing the footage on the 'net soon, right Disney?

Mumbling Kitsune: A Very Animated Batman - Jul 20, 2008 - 07:47pm
I'm proud to say I own all of Batman:TAS DVD's, and every Burnett/Dini/Timm collaboration that followed. It is a landmark show that ended way too soon, but fortunately lived on in other shows. The recently completed The Batman series was a pale imitator, frequently referencing Batman:TAS. I really hope the upcoming Brave and the Bold series picks up the torch. As for the Gotham Knight...it was okay. Entertaining but not memorable. It was nice to hear Conroy as Batman again. Warner Premiere please do a few more Batman DTV's!

SMALLVILLE: Sleeper - Apr 27, 2008 - 05:54pm
There will be one more season after this, cellblock303. What I find surprising, is that Smallville was not affected by the Writer's Strike. New episodes have appeared all through the season. They either finalized every script prior to the strike, or they improvised. The quality of the show would suggest the latter. Smallville did jump the shark, imho.

New TV Spot for INDY IV - Mar 30, 2008 - 10:05pm
Anyone else find that girl from the Snorg Tees ads irritating? Spazzy smile.

Ian McKellen Responds to HOBBIT Prequels - Mar 26, 2008 - 04:30am
This would be awesome. I hope the rest of the cast can make cameos in some form too. My biggest question, is wether that would include using Ian Holm as the title character...as he did 'hardly age' according to Gandalf in Fellowship. Looking forward to this one.

No More FANTASTIC FOUR?? - Mar 26, 2008 - 04:26am
The 2nd movie was a Box Office litmus test, to see if the returns would amplify the take of the first one. Fox thought they built the audience for it with the first FF. This reminds of the Tomb Raider franchise...it really hinged on the performance of the 2nd film. I was honestly surprised a sequel was green-lit, let alone so quickly. I thought these were watcheable, but had too many cringe-inducing moments. I think they could have been much better in the hands of another director. Then again, my money is on Fox making a 3rd one, likely with a cheaper budget, to elevate it to that 'Trilogy' status, and make some money on the home video market. These FF movies were profitable.

And The Oscar Goes To... - Feb 25, 2008 - 12:09am
I liked no Country, Blood, and Juno. It was tough for me to side with just one. Golden Compass for best SFX? Bah. Jablonski shoulda been nominated for Transformers for best score. Other than that...I think the awards recognized the creme de la creme this year.

Twelve Inches of JONES! - Feb 23, 2008 - 07:20pm
Looks more like the man who gave him the hat in Crusade. He looks deformed...ready for his role on Robot Chicken.

Abrams Updates CLOVERFIELD 2 & TREK - Feb 23, 2008 - 07:17pm
I was thinking the exact same thing as Hobbs. I think even JJ wanted to mention something to that effect (hey lady, this mic shouldn't be parked in front of my face!). Reminds me of that girl who interviewed John Cusack and confused him with Kevin Spacey (http://youtube.com/watch ?v=yXF8L hvjqa8 minus spaces). Some girls want to be seen/heard, and can't be bothered with journalism basics. Both girls sound as educated as a 16 year old.

First Glimpse at New WOLVERINE - Feb 13, 2008 - 11:08pm
He's almost as bad-ass Canadian as I am. Almost. Looking forward to this one...I also hope that Magneto Origins film gets off the ground.

First Trailer for M.Night's HAPPENING - Feb 05, 2008 - 01:02am
Schmalayan seems to have documented the audience reaction to his last few films. Seems redundant.

First INDY Trailer Hits Theaters Feb 14 - Jan 21, 2008 - 03:51am
There was probably no Paramount genre flick in the fall that would be appropriate for attaching the Indy trailer. I think they could have at least done a teaser. I think Lucas has also learned that the less marketing the better. He decreased the scale and budget of marketing with each passing prequel. He knows the fans will show up regardless. It could have debuted this past weekend, though maybe JJ Abrams also didn't want any thunder to get stolen from his Cloverfield/Star Trek tentpoles, the way he crashed the Transformers party in the summer. Blah Blah Blah blah blah blah blah

WB Launches 10,000 BC Site - Jan 21, 2008 - 03:45am
They spoke British in 10,000 BC. Don't believe me? Watch the movie. This movie will bomb. There was no 'money shot' or 'wow shot' in the trailer. There was absolutely nothing with appeal in the trailer. A stampede of Wooly Mammoth?? *Sigh!*

CLOVERFIELD - Jan 19, 2008 - 03:40pm
**SPOILER** Can anyone confirm this? In the very last shot of the film, when the couple was looking out at the ocean, didn't an object go crashing into the water like a meteorite? This could imply the monster was alien. **END OF SPOILER** Very good film. Edge of your seat popcorn movie!

First still of STAR TREK'S Enterprise online - Jan 17, 2008 - 07:05pm
AICN was pimping a FAKE teaser earlier this week. Damn! Busted again for visiting that "other" fanboy site.

WB Grabs a BUCKET of Cash - Jan 13, 2008 - 03:31pm
Hey Jarrod, how would we know if some clever geek decided to create a new mania account with your full name? Huh? Huh? I am telling DarkJedi on you! (And why the hell didn't I think of that sooner?) Perhaps you should um, "borrow" that black box thing the editors at AICN use in talkbacks. What? Why are you upset? OKAY, I admit to having visited that site once or twice. I cheated on Mania. The slow news days made me weak! I'm a changed man now! I'll remain faithful from here on out! Don't you worry.

Trailer for Romero's DIARY OF THE DEAD - Jan 12, 2008 - 01:30am
Diary is such a girly word. Hey guys, lets go see "Diary of the--" and then I would be cut off for daring to suggest a chick flick. I guess everything has to end with "of the Dead". Has my interest. All zombie movies do.

Rival Race Car for SPEED RACER - Jan 12, 2008 - 01:25am
*Ahem* (cue John Candy voice from Spaceballs): IT'S A TRANSFORMER- - ! Wow Speed Racer is about an evil corporate sponsor? Those decals on the car are so pivotal. I learned that from Pixar's Cars.

SUPERMAN on Hold, JLA Trouble Continues - Jan 12, 2008 - 01:19am
Some ideas for Man of Steel: -Luthor creates a villain (Doomsday) by poisoning a fellow inmate with a grain-sized piece of kryptonite. -Supe's son is tricked into thinking mom and dad (Marsden) were killed, with Supes failing to save them. Luthor takes him and raises him to hate (and ultimately try to kill) Superman. - Dozens of Kryptonians head to earth after they detect two of their own kind living there. Among the refugees: Brainiac. Mayhem ensues. Wessmith's idea is good too. Yes that was a compliment.

New Image of IRON MAN Online - Jan 09, 2008 - 12:49am
Not a big Iron Man fan, but Favreau clearly loves the Superhero/Comic genre, and I think that will show in the film. I appreciate any well-executed Superhero film. I'm sold! Why hasn't there been any teasers or trailers for the Hulk movie? Its six months away.

Update: WB Is Now Blu-Ray Exclusive, HD-DVD Responds - Jan 05, 2008 - 03:40pm
almostunbiased: I chose my name because Dave is so generic, so I thought I'd precede it with original! I'm not a blu-ray hater. Just a porn lover. Top that! I think people will be able to go to a store and upload an entiire move to a media device, not over the internet all the time.

Routh is Still SUPERMAN for WB - Jan 05, 2008 - 02:10am
Nolan is the man, axia777. Dark Knight looks to be brilliant. I don't think the fanboys or the general public were clamoring for a JLA movie. Its great WB is attempting something of this scope, but it seems out of place. Time will tell.

Update: WB Is Now Blu-Ray Exclusive, HD-DVD Responds - Jan 05, 2008 - 01:56am
HD DVD allows porn. Porn outsells everything! Physical media is about 4-5 years from extinction. The format war will be a mute point.

Routh is Still SUPERMAN for WB - Jan 05, 2008 - 01:43am
The WB is really making a mess here. Routh was good, and recasting him in the Supes sequel would only further dilute the validity of Superman films with the Justice League movie coming out. Kudos to Marvel with taking a smart approach with the Avengers and spinning off the X-Men after the trilogy.

Felix "Wright" Leiter Returns for BOND 22 - Jan 03, 2008 - 09:13am
Hes a red shirt this time.

THE BATMAN: The Complete Fourth Season - Dec 28, 2007 - 10:38pm
This show is constantly referring to BTAS and STAS and JL, as if to admit they were better shows (they are). Harley Quinn is an obvious nod. Even having the same voice actors for Superman, Lois and Lex from STAS for Season 5. And now the whole Justice League angle. Didn't that show just wrap up a year ago? Why would WB retread that ground? As for Sonyman, I agree about the BTC suggestion. I also believe WB was going to release a DVD of animated Batman shorts to tie-in with the Dark Knight, a la Animatrix. I hope it'll be good.

HANCOCK Teaser Trailer in HD - Dec 23, 2007 - 12:55am
I was impressed with I Am Legend, and I think Hancock looks like another homerun. It just needs a better title! I know its an improvement over 'Tonight He Comes', but its still meh. Hows about: 'SuperZero'?

New Line/Peter Jackson Case Settled, Jackson Produces HOBBIT - Dec 18, 2007 - 10:23pm
I wonder if the bomb that was the Golden Compass helped New Line realize they need a tentpole film ASAP? They need to recoup their losses.

Set Photos for DRAGON BALL Z Online - Dec 17, 2007 - 04:30am
Some properties don't always need the live-action treatment, in my opinion. If they have hit a homerun being animated, why not also do a big-screen feature in animated form? Just thought I'd throw that out there before they start lensing Avatar: The Last Airbender. :)

15 Films Up for 2007 Visual Effects Oscar - Dec 17, 2007 - 04:21am
Transformers will win. And shame on all of you for not going to see The Mist.

Michelle Williams Cast for SHUTTER ISLAND - Dec 07, 2007 - 03:02am
Michelle Williams, ooh, you're so divine, Just wanted to put your name in my rhyme, And doowutchyalike! Digital Underground RULES! Word.

WGA Strike Delays CASTLEVANIA - Dec 07, 2007 - 02:54am
We're spared a videogame adaptation. I supoose theres some good to all this. All though...WRITERS do write them Video Game movies. I am torn.

First PUNISHER:WAR ZONE Pic - Dec 07, 2007 - 02:51am
The Thomas Jane one was great in my opinion, until the stupid cars that exploded to make a burning skull logo. Cheezy. The fight with the Russian was classic, and the Johnny Cash assassin was very cool. Travolta was meh. I really think the film could use a re-edit. Still, its an underrated gem. And SHAME on all of you for not seeing The Mist. Shame Shame Shame. I'm looking at you, Wessmith!!

First SPEED RACER Trailer - Dec 07, 2007 - 02:42am
It certainly is a faithful adaptation of the source material. I doubt this will really rub anyone the wrong way (like Transformers). Speed Racer is an older property that has managed to remain relevant-- but doesn't have as much popularity as a Superhero or Fantasy property that warrants a big budget big-screen adaptation. What I'm saying is, this film is sort of an unexpected bonus, one that doesn't carry a lot of fanboy scrutiny. It looks like an all ages fun popcorn movie. I Am Legend, on the other hand...

Lawrence Talks CONSTANTINE 2 Possibilities - Dec 01, 2007 - 09:21pm
I liked Constantine, thought it was entertaining, with a few memorable 'jump' moments. I think I liked it because I have never followed the comic, and it seemed so much better than the Matrix sequels, so Keanu was bearable.

FRIDAY THE 13TH 'Not' A Remake - Nov 30, 2007 - 08:46pm
Jarrod, D'oh my bad. USA Today ran it. -Originaldave

FRIDAY THE 13TH 'Not' A Remake - Nov 29, 2007 - 11:56am
Cloverfield monster(s) revealed http://canmag.com/images/front/movies2008/cloverfieldmonster.jpg

ENCHANTED Dances into Top Spot - Nov 25, 2007 - 06:59pm
I saw 'The Mist' and like Beowulf, had the must-see vibe going for me. And I enjoyed it a lot. It reminded me of Aliens. The whole audience applauded at one point. With the range of creatures in it, and the military aspect, I think this movie is screaming for a videogame adaptation, preferably FPS.

NECA Unveils New AVP:REQUIEM Figure - Oct 20, 2007 - 10:07pm
All it needs is a top hat and a cane, and it would be Spaceballs memorabilia.

Pre-Strike Priorities Have Changed - Oct 11, 2007 - 11:33am
And Transformers 2 is where...? That looked like as fast a turnaround as Spidey 2 and Fantastic Four 2.

Jackman Training for WOLVERINE Action - Oct 06, 2007 - 06:06am
Busy news day for a Saturday, eh? I usually skip Mania for the lack of posted news on weekends. I am looking forward to the Wolverine film. I think the Magneto film and any other X-men spinoff hinge on its success.

The Halo Movie is 'Entirely Dead' - Oct 06, 2007 - 05:53am
Hey Bungie: Maybe take all those characters and environments you made, spruce them a bit, and create a CGI movie, A la Spirits Within or Advent Children. I think the gamers would embrace that. I know I would.

SMALLVILLE: Kara - Oct 06, 2007 - 05:45am
Smallville is going to limp across the finish line. It has become a convoluted mess. The show has relied on countless introductions of characters. A 7-year origin story packed with filler. We'll see Clark fly and wear the tights in the series finale. Sorry if I spoiled it.

GAME PLAN Scores Winning Touchdown - Sep 30, 2007 - 10:50pm
haha a comment that was more informative than the column that preceded it. Thanks Metalwater. (Sorry Jarrod-- it is the slow movie-going season). Although it was a copy and paste of another article. Still iinteresting all the same. I went to a lot of movies this summer, but I have to think in the future the studios will consider delivering media directly to consumers upon its release. If you market it well, you can achieve some Halo 3 numbers.

BSG: Razor - Sep 23, 2007 - 12:13am
Anyone know when BSG season 3.0 is coming out on DVD? I can't find any mention on amazon.

Lucas Talks Indy Sr. For CRYSTAL SKULL - Sep 18, 2007 - 11:06pm
lincolnparadox: yeah but we keep buying. And perhaps give him the impression we want MORE. And I'm guilty of a little of both. I'm sure one day Lucas will hand over the keys to the Empire (pun intended) to some capable hands. His properties need new blood, and more importantly: new vision. Can you imagine if Bob Kane was the only one to oversee Batman's evolution over a few generations? I can't. You need the Frank Millers and the Christopher Nolans to grab the reins.

Bruce Timm Answers on SUPERMAN:DOOMSDAY - Sep 18, 2007 - 10:56pm
Haha colour me a liar. I bought it, and I actually enjoyed it. There were a few surprise moments, and the action/violence was great. Some of the voice-acting missed the mark (see Clark's first scene), and the odd bit of dialogue was poorly written, but this is 100 times better than 'Brainiac Attacks', and more satisfying than Superman Returns even.

Bruce Timm Answers on SUPERMAN:DOOMSDAY - Sep 18, 2007 - 11:35am
A spy review over at AICN has convinced me to avoid this. And I own every Bruce Timm/Paul Dini DVD-- Batman: TAS, Superman:TAS, Batman Beyond, Justice League, and all their related movies.

THE BRAVE ONE Takes Revenge to Top Spot - Sep 16, 2007 - 05:31pm
Hey Jarrod I enjoy these Box Office rundowns. Its become a Sunday afternoon tradition for me! Looking at the list of October Releases, I think it will be a September release that steals the most money in the month of October: Resident Evil Extinction. But If I had to select from that list, I'll say Saw IV brings home about 65 million over its release.

STARGATE SG-1 Complete Series on October 9 - Sep 09, 2007 - 09:04pm
I don't get it. With the advent of Blu-Ray, couldn't they fit entire seasons onto one disc (Not sure if they could do that with HD-DVD)?

Apatow Scores Again with SUPERBAD - Aug 26, 2007 - 07:42pm
Jarrod didn't publish my top 10 predictions...I'm correct across the board (off the odd 100K here and there). haha JK I think Mania should have a pool for next summer...closest guesstimator wins all the DVD's of the summer releases! Heck, how about a weekly contest?? I loved Transformers...I can't remember a movie entertaining me so since the Matrix. Other films had wince or cringe-inducing scenes...Transformers wanted to entertain me from stop-to-finish, and it did. I'm gonna see it in IMAX! Merin stop rolling your eyes!

Livingston Says 'Yes' to TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE - Aug 22, 2007 - 03:18am
You don't need the space-time continuum to make a husband out-of-sync with his wife, am I right fellas?

Warner Bros Options Darker WIZARD OF OZ Revision - Aug 22, 2007 - 03:12am
Maybe hand it off to Tim Burton. This could work a la Nightmare before Christmas or Corpse Bride. OR Hollywood could stop bastardizing classic properties.

Update: Bay Back on TRANSFORMERS 2 - Aug 22, 2007 - 03:05am
What a difference a year makes. Last summer, everyone was moaning over his involvement. NOW everyone is sweating bullets as to wether he'll drop out of doing the sequel! I might just buy an HD-DVD player to appreciate Ironhide doing his Neo thang. I don't think the format should really affect a director's career. Did any director side with Beta?

Routh, Bale Out of JUSTICE LEAGUE - Aug 22, 2007 - 02:59am
I'm glad they cleared this up...the involvement of Routh and Bale appeared to be the most pressing question about this movie. While it would be cool to have all this big-screen canon like the Diniverse, I can live without. In fact, not having those guys involved really frees up JLA, and allows it to be its own entity. Plus we get to watch it a whole lot sooner than having to wait for Supes and Bats to release their respective trilogies. Heck, WB can oversaturate the market with the Wonder Woman and Green Lantern films too! I disagree with Wessmith1966. I know he hasn't posted yet, but hes usually wrong.

Anime BATMAN Set In Between BB & DK - Aug 07, 2007 - 08:17pm
They should call it: BATMANIME. Kinda like Animatrix. Warner Bros: You can send me my free copy of Batmanime. BATMANGA? BATMANIMATED?

Harry Potter's Spell is on Top - Jul 15, 2007 - 07:19pm
Every Potter fan I talk to say the books are way better. I think the films are ok. They seem to be second-rate whodunits that are set in a cool world with cool characters...but if you've seen one... Transformers was even better the second time around. Some kid next to me turned to his parents and asked "What is 'masturbating'?" I spilled my popcorn from laughing so hard

E3: Some Trailers Released - Jul 14, 2007 - 01:44am
Impressive. Most impressive. But you are not a Jedi yet! Hey everyone check out the 1-18-08 pic I made...its in my profile...I think the 3 pics make the image of a dragon-like creature!

1-18-08 Has Been Updated - Jul 13, 2007 - 08:33pm
I positioned the pic (of the two girls looking up) upside down above the party pic. That hair in between them was positioned above the man's tie to look like fire emanating from the World Trade Centre. Just my 2 cents. Oh, I also put another theory of what it is in my profile! Check it out!

Moore Adapts LOST THINGS - Jul 11, 2007 - 08:19pm
Whats up with all these Captains posting here?

PERFECT CREATURE Arrives on July 17th - Jul 11, 2007 - 08:16pm
Okay what the bleep?! Our Canadian dollar is worth almost the same as the American dollar. So we are we still paying a huge mark-up? A $13.50 mark-up here between the American and Canadian prices for this DVD release! A 45% increase, when in reality it should only be about 9%. The Canadian version of this crap DVD should be closer to $33.00

10,000 B.C Trailer - Jul 11, 2007 - 08:12pm
DarkJedi...it was the Godzilla that will forever bother me. I actually liked ID4...but then these guys (Roland and Devlin) crowned themselves to Spielbergian heights that was a bit unearned.

10,000 B.C Trailer - Jul 11, 2007 - 05:18pm
I stopped reading the article at the words 'Roland Emmerich', no lie.

Spacey Returns as Luthor in SUPERMAN - Jul 11, 2007 - 10:03am
SR wasn't a great film, but I applaud WB for making a cerebral 'thinking man's' superhero movie, like its Batman Begins brethren. Only Batman and Robin-esque type films will truly draw my ire. I am optimistic that 'Man of Steel' will right the ship. My only concern is that it was just barely green-lit, so there will be more studio meddling, and less creative control for Singer. Leave it to Wessmith1966 to recommend the kid get killed off. I bet he hates puppies and kittens too. Heres a flash game where he can kill kittens: http://www.mousebreaker.com/games/mmeoww/play.php

TRANSFORMERS Rolls Out to Victory - Jul 08, 2007 - 07:07pm
Could someone explain why they release these numbers BEFORE people go to the theatre Sunday nite? Does that not count as part of the weekend? Transformers will make another $100M domestically by the end of next week. There will be a sequel. I expect the budget to be about the same. This still leaves room for more 'bots to show up, as they don't have to put more money into developing the surviving Transformers. *SPOILERS* Megatron will return, as hinted by Frenzy surviving his decapitation, and Scorponok's tail coming to life. It also looked like Megs was missing an arm when they dropped him into the ocean?

Michael Bay Talks TRANSFORMERS & Future - Jul 06, 2007 - 03:18am
I enjoyed the movie. It had its share of cheese, but I didn't walk out with that feeling of disappointment that I had with Spider-Man 3. It did have that problem of establishing characters that most ensemble pieces do. But that was okay with me...I already knew them before I went in the theatre, and it was great seeing them loooking every bit as real as any superhero that graced the screen over the past few decades. Then again, you can send me a hallmark card with a picture of Optimus Prime saying "Autobots, ROLL OUT--!" and I would call it a masterpiece. I tried to see this again tonite, but the theatre was selling out shows left and right. Rather than wait til the 10:40pm show, I decided to see Ratatouille an hour sooner. I'll see TF again this weekend! Wessmith1966 for prez in 08!

BATMAN Calls For The Law - Jul 06, 2007 - 02:58am
Marching scene? I believe cops do that when they lose one of their own in the line of duty. Gordon? The current commish? They wouldn't do this for the DA (Dent). I think its a death march. With the Joker, there will be casualties.

New Line Drops MEG Movie - Jul 06, 2007 - 02:51am
A bigger Jaws movie with bigger prey doesn't necessarily guarantee bigger bucks. Sort of like 98's Godzilla tried to be a bigger Jurassic Park. It succeeded at doing so, but it had that 'been there' vibe (among other failings). The shark genre has been done to death. Not just Jaws, but its many copycats, and the multitude of films that give Jaws tribute/homage. Deep Blue Sea and Open Water were the last few entertaining gasps.

New CLOVERFIELD Site Online - Jul 04, 2007 - 08:59pm
I know giant monsters destroying New York is nothing new, but the way the story is told has been done once before: 9/11. Scores of videocam footage documented that terrorist attack, and now that is being applied to a hollywood movie. This is probably done to recapture that horrific/surreal feel that everyone endured almost six years ago. I don't think it will work. Trying to document a monster attack through amateur video? Could be messy. The suspension of disbelief doesn't have to be taken to the nth degree.

Robots in Various Disguises - Jun 28, 2007 - 12:42am
I believe it was Cartoon Network who green-lit MEGAS XLR. That show was awesome, and underappreciated. It had Transformers references in just about every episode. i wish CN would let those guys run with a new Transformers show. Alas, the new show is for kids, and thats what sells toys and cereal. Shows like 'The Batman', 'Legion of Super Heroes'...its for them. So if fans want adult-oriented cartoons, they'd have to support the shows, and not just the comedy ones (Venture Bros, Family Guy, etc). Make a cool fan-boy cartoon, and they will come. But no more Spawn! *sigh!*

Supergirl Moving to SMALLVILLE - Jun 12, 2007 - 12:15am
It will defy continuity a bit (Reeve's character made no mention of a 2nd kryptonian on the way), but it will be interesting. Maybe her character will squeeze Lana's out of the fold? This is also shades of Superman: The Animated Series. That show ended shortly after her intro.

TOTALLY SPIES Sneaking to Big Screen - May 18, 2007 - 11:15pm
'tis true they do appeal to guys more than girls. I should say a girl turned me onto Zim, and that Justice League was arguably more girl-centric than it appears. In fact, I believe the gal heros and villains get the same amount of screentime. I have seen the show...as an animator, it was rather forgettable. I think this is an american-based anime-looking show. Bring back MEGAS! And change spongebob's voice back to season 1 era!

Jackson Catches THE SPIRIT - May 18, 2007 - 11:09pm
MetalWatero, I'd also love to see a sequel to Unbreakable. With both Willis and Jackson. But if it came to fisticuffs, it would be the most one-sided fight EVER! It does beg the question: What would a villain do if he knew the identity of a hero and his weaknesses? Jackson does give this 'Spirit' project some serious cred. I think fans are willing to give this property some consideration, even though it predates just about everyone.

TOTALLY SPIES Sneaking to Big Screen - May 18, 2007 - 02:34am
"Season five of the show is in production" This site needs an editor! How does 'Totally Spies' make it to 5 years while shows like Justice League, Invader Zim, Teen Titans, Batman Beyond, Megas XLR all get canned sooner??

Bold Adopts Orphanage for LEGION - May 18, 2007 - 02:30am
Its like Dusk til Dawn. Mmmm vampire strippers. Tarantino/Rodriguez's first attempt at Grindhouse that succeeded.

"The Cage" Enterprise - May 18, 2007 - 02:27am
The previous post actually makes me want to physically harm the next geek I see. You can't kill what doesn't have a life.

New TRANSFORMERS Trailer - May 17, 2007 - 10:44pm
That has to be the best damned trailer I have ever seen. Probably due to Transformers being my Star Wars, I was an 80's kid. I am biased, but that trailer gave me more goosebumps than Phantom Menace. I was a little surprised by how tiny Jazz was compared to Megatron. Poor Jazz...he got stepped on bad...made a weird squeaking noise.

PAN'S LABYRINTH on DVD this Week - May 14, 2007 - 01:26am
All of you go out and buy the DVD. Amazing stuff. Vote Del Toro to direct the Hobbit in '08!

CAVEMEN, CONNOR CHRONICLES Get Series Pickups - May 14, 2007 - 01:19am
Fox should just do the inevitable and cancel the Sarah Connors show NOW! That way, fans can start their "save the show" campaign early. This show smells expensive, so Fox will likely kamikaze it against Lost or Heroes.

ILM to forge IRON MAN's FX - May 14, 2007 - 01:15am
Seeing what ILM has done with the Transformers so far has reminded people that ILM is the best in the biz. It'll look great. WETA, you're on notice!

Bello Replacement for Weisz in MUMMY 3 - May 14, 2007 - 01:12am
Okay, I thought Weisz's character was written out of the script. I guess money was the issue. However, this franchise doesn't really take itself too seriously, so the change won't be earth-shattering. Brunettes might be up in arms.

GALACTICA to Continue, Says Sci Fi - May 14, 2007 - 01:07am
Dave's Take: There was this Cinescaper named Spider987 who would post a dozen things anytime Galactica was mentioned. He is dead now. Or he got a life. Whichever it is, I want him to know this show has outlasted and surpassed the mediocre original.

Roth Signs on as HULK Villain - May 09, 2007 - 08:49pm
CappyMorgan-- get rid of Tyler??? Shes the eye-candy. I think shes all that and a bag of chips. Hopefully, her wardrobe will be as revealing as any girl appearing in a comic book. She makes me wanna reforge my sword ifyouknowhutimean

Lucas Plans Two More STAR WARS - May 09, 2007 - 08:45pm
Perhaps a Boba Fett movie. It has to be a cool one-shot deal. I agree with everyone here about Ewoks-esque TV movies: NO MORE! I really think Lucas is short-changing himself with only a pair of hour long shows. I think he needs to make a great miniseries a la DUNE. Or BSG. Character-driven drama in a Sci-Fi backdrop. With good dialogue. Like Wessmith1966.

More TERMINATORS in the Future - May 09, 2007 - 08:39pm
Dave's Take: T3 did for the franchise what Phantom Menace did for Star Wars: It made a lot of money, and everyone thought it sucked. James Cameron is a tough act to follow. Only his involvement would give the franchise some new-found credibilty.
