Ormond Mothers SUPERMAN

Julia Ormond in talks to play Lara, mother of Superman.

By Jarrod Sarafin     June 24, 2011
Source: Deadline

Nearly ten days after reports surfaced that Russell Crowe was reportedly set to play Jor-El, the father of Superman in Zack Snyder's upcoming installment of Man of Steel, Deadline has revealed that Julia Ormond may be boarding the production as the superhero's mother. The Legends of the Fall actress has reportedly been offered the role of Lara, Kal-El's birth mother from Krypton. His Earth-born parents have been already set with Diane Lane and Kevin Costner set as the Kents.

If Ormond and Crowe sign on the dotted line (both are still in discussions), they will join Henry Cavill (Superman), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Michael Shannon (General Zod) and Antje Traue (Faora).

With a release set for December 2012, director Zack Snyder is expected to begin production shortly, based on a screenplay by David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan. Batman franchise rebooter Christopher Nolan is overseeing the development as a producer.

Thanks to Chopsaki for the submission.

I really have a bad feeling about this movie.

mlaforce 6/24/2011 5:06:29 AM

For some reason Spider, so do I

krathwardroid 6/24/2011 5:51:52 AM

Yeah, I guess I can second those reservations, too, spiderhero and mlaforce.

I'm in! I think with Crowe as Jor-el he should have bit of screen time and well, you just cant go wrong with that can ya! Or can you???

There is nothing so far to criticize anything about the movie. The plot hasn't even really been revealed. So I'm all for it.

You guys are picking up tremors in the Force though...like a thousand comic fans screaming out in horror, then suddenly silenced.

Yeah, I don't know what there is to be worried about yet.  Great cast.  Solid director.  And Chris Nolan overseeing it all.  What's giving you guys a reason to fear?

I was quite in love with Julia Ormond when she was a leading lady in the 90's.  She disapeared just before she would have peaked though........same thing happened to Sharilyn Fenn........and where the hell is Bridget Fonda?!?!?  I miss those girls........

No tremors for me on this one, Zack Snyder is a dream come true to direct this movie!  With uncle Nolan watching from above I'm quite optimistic!

I have to agree with the others voicing bad feelings about this.  I love the choice of actors, but the fact that they're going back to the "Zod" well instead of mining other great potential adversaries is bad juju.

I have so much more anticipation for this film than I did for SR.  You've got a great cast, a good director and you know you will finally get a Supes movie with some action.  I'm not one who was excited about the choice of Zod, but it beats having Lex Luthor in it again.  I get the choice of Zod.  He is famailar with the non fans and he is someone who can slug it out wih the man of steel.

You know what, if this is an origin story who the F**k cares! As long as they don't try to connect this to the Reeve/Donner movies and so long as I don't see Lex Luthor as the main villian, I'm fine with it. Again I have complete trust in Nolan, I believe the he Goyer and Snyder have crafted a good and entertaining story. Unitl we see or hear more, the fanboys need to collectively unknot their panties, and clam down.
