Osamu Tezuka's In the Beginning Vol. 2
January 01, 2000
What They SayThe Review! What can I say about this show... The man that many have called the "God of Manga" brings us Bible Stories. Tezuka uses his amazing story telling abilities to bring the stories contained in the Bible to life. While a serious telling of the stories contained in the Bible, Tezuka adds his regular charm and compassion to these stories, and helps expand this with the presence of a lively fox character named Loco.
Of course, being the large Tezuka Fan I am... I had to pick this up. The only volume I have been able to get so far is the second volume of a 9 volume series. The stories contained in this disc are "The Tower of Babel", "Abraham, the Forefather" and "Sodom and Gomorrah." First off, the packaging... It is released in a "DVD Jewel Case" that many Japanese companies favor, so is in desperate need of a more suitable style case. The cover of the booklet is rather bland, with writing on the top and bottom as well as the number 2 written in roman numerals with "In the Beginning by Osamu Tezuka" written in English above it.
The booklet contains a short description of the stories, as well as a cast listing. The back contains a list of DVDs in the series as well as listing the stories they contain. While the story titles are listed in English as well as Japanese inside the booklet, the listings on the back are only available in Japanese.
The video on this disc is clear, with no noticeable distortions. This DVD contains both the original Japanese as well as the English dub produced for release here in the U.S. Both are presented in Dolby 2.0.
The menu is very bland, offering only a story select. No extras included on this disc. Also, each story is it's own chapter, without any chapter stops during the story.
Overall, I would suggest this DVD to fans of Tezuka, or to those who wish a good telling of the classic Bible tales.
