Varietyreports that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts &Sciences has unveiled it's list of special effects and sound editing Oscarnominations. These are categories where genre movies typically do well and thisyear is no exception. Three of the year's big four comic movies were named with Spider-Mangetting two nods.
Spider-Manis a contender in the special effects category, joined by the comic-based Menin Black II. Their competition: Harry Potter and the Chamber ofSecrets, Minority Report, Star Wars: Episode II --Attack of the Clones, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towersand XXX.
The web-spinnergot another nod in the sound editing category, an honor shared with RoadTo Perdition. Also on the list are Harry Potter and the Chamber ofSecrets, Minority Report, The Lord of the Rings: TheTwo Towers and We Were Soldiers.
C2F givesa razzie to the Academy for overlooking that fourth big comic book movie of2002: Blade II. It certainly sported some terrific effects, althoughadmittedly the competition this year is very tough.
