Otakon 2008: FUNimation Panel

Cooler and less humid than usual, Otakon 2008 got underway today and the first industry panel was from FUNimation. The panel, run by Adam Sheehan, ran through much the same material that was discussed during Anime Expo in July, ranging from their digital distribution plans to the mobile plans with AT&T along with their YouTube channel.

Adam also talked about the release of Black Lagoon: Second Barrage through their distribution deal with Geneon Entertainment. Confirming what's been talked about elsewhere, the only difference between this and what Geneon was going to release on their own is an additional logo on the case from FUNimation.

Ouran Host Club fans were reassured that the second part of the series was coming quickly with an early January 2009 release planned for that particular set.

 Blu-ray fans will be happy to note that Vexille is still targeted for an 11/04/2008 release while before that they will see Afro Samura, Robotech: Shadow Chronicles and more Dragon Ball Z.

When talking about Kanon, the sixth volume is planned to be released soon and a box set of all of it will follow as well. It's unclear as to whether the individual volumes for the first five will be released from the transcript.

No new announcements were made at the panel, though there were indications from interviews made with FUNimation CEO Gen Fukunaga that they had hoped to reveal something at FUNimation.
