Big Move!
This year Right Stuf moved to a new building. With our new space we’ll be looking to move more of our DVD production in house (amongst other things)
Series this year:
Gravitation OVA
3 audio tracks: Japanese / English / soundtrack only (for fan fun!)
Right Stuf was able to get some features that were never released on the Japanese DVD of the show (these are the ones that fans were worried wouldn’t make it to the States)
Special Play feature:
If you hit “Play All” from the main menu, you get all the video features played in line where they’re supposed to fit into the show (“next time” / sneak preview 1 / epilogues / sneak preview 2)
If you play from the scene access, you’ll see the show without the sneak peaks inserted (you can still access them from the bonus menu)
Sneak Previews dual subtitles:
There are 2 sets of subs on the sneak previews. The ones on the bottom are the hardsubbed Japanese Engrish and at the top is what the voice actors are actually saying. We were unable to obtain the previews without the hardsubbed Engrish.
(AOD exclusive note: there are also subtitles in the prologue and last chapter of the show where Touma is talking to an English company in English. Although you hear the Japanese actors speaking English, the Japanese subtitles at the bottom of the screen (for the original Japanese audience of course) don’t actually match what it is that you’re hearing in English. We could have left the Japanese text at the bottom untranslated, but we thought that the American fans would want to know what all that Japanese text at the bottom really was.)
Gravitation Merchandise
More Kumagoros coming
More stuff in development (can’t talk about that right now)
Piano TV Series
Includes video extras (called “Visual Monologues”) which are basically Miu’s audio diaries. In these extras, you see video of scenes from the show and liveaction footage of the Japanese voice actress overlaid with the characters thoughts and feelings about what has happened in the episode(s). These add a whole new dimension to the show and really help give insight into what’s going on
Special play mode:
If you hit “Play All” on the main menu, if there is a visual monologue for a particular episode, it will play immediately following that related episode
If you play from the scene access, you’ll see the show without the visual monologues inserted (you can still access them from the bonus menu)

Shawne has tons of ideas that he’s working on implementing that he’s all secretive about right now
Questions from fans (that I can remember)
Are we looking at older titles?
There’s lots of titles we’d like to have, but it all depends on availability from Japanese licensors and if they want to license them abroad. Some of them just aren’t available.
Will we be releasing an ultra KKNJ set?
There’s things I’d like to go back and fix (mainly the video) but it all depends on cooperation from Gainax on if we could even get materials and such.
Will we be bringing over the Gravitation OSTs?
I can’t remember how I answered this at the panel, but I hope we can bring them over but as of right now we don’t have the rights to these.
Would we consider publishing novels (like Boogiepop)?
There are a number of book publishers already established in the States who have already started bringing over Japanese novels (Dr. Master / DMP + Darkhorse / etc..) and we feel that, as book publishers, they’re much better suited than us to deal with that kind of material than we are so we don’t intend on getting into this side of the industry.
How is Right Stuf handling the translations on Ninin ga Shinobuden and will there be liner notes for all the cultural references?
Oh yes. We’ve made it a priority to always do liner notes for all of our titles. Ninja Nonsense (Ninin ga Shinobuden) is a bit tough because the scripts that we got from the Japanese would have something written, and then that would be crossed off, and then THAT would be crossed off, and then in the end the audio doesn’t match anything even in the scripts. There were also other locations where it was just the voice actors adlibbing. It’s been quite a challenge to translate. If any of the fans out there know some of the obscure references (because some of them are VERY obscure) we’d love to know about them. Ideally, we’d love to be able to explain all the references in the show if we can manage it.
