Saw Other guys, over the top comedy.  Very impressive shots for this goofy movie.  I have to say Will and Marky mark really earned this with the promotions.  I love all the unexplained gags, Will being hot to women, why the bad guys always take their shoes.  I like the montouge (sp) where they go drinking.

Michael Keaton was funny as hell also.  I wish he would do another Batman project, maybe a toon movie that seems to crank out once a year.  Or he could do an old man Batman live action, that story sucked for me but they can rework the story, or maybe to a Batman beyond movie with him in it.

ensue....but you're still right....

Every movie you mentioned Dragonrojo worked because the actor wasn't an "action" hero. The Matrix would have been horrible if they would have had  some "shoot first, talk later" action star in it. Apart from Predators none of these characters were supposed to be badasses.

I love the action movies of the 80's and 90's but apart from Stallone, Arnold, and Willis, the rest weren't very good actors, which is why these guys are still around and popular. Lundgren, JCVD, and Seagal are doing crappy, direct to dvd flicks.

The closest thing to a throwback action hero we have is The Stath. Expendables is going to kick serious ass. Every guy is going to see it. There is no way its going to fail!

On a sad note, Patricia Neal from the original (and always the best)  "The Day the Earth Stood Still" passed away yesterday. She was one tough lady it would seem, as she survived and recuperated from numerous strokes and still kept on working.

Ponyboy, sorry, but I will be skipping The Expendables. I'm not into over-blown action flicks like that. And all the "stars" won't make up for bad acting, bad action(over-the-top), and Stallone. If it does well, it's simply because of the names, and not because it's actually a good action movie.

Best "Action Movie" of all-time that is not a war movie is still the original Die Hard. Best villain, best hero, great one-liners, funny comic releaf and some of the best action sequences ever.....and combined with great music, it's still the one to top, which won't happen!

Hey Muenster, I too just read that this morning in my local paper. That is sad news indeed. She starred in some great movies like Hud and Fountain Head, but The Day The Earth Stood Still(original) was the one I knew her best. One of the all-time greatest movies.....she will be missed! RIP Ms. Neal!

The reasons you are giving for not seeing Expendables Eaglemaniac are all BAD!..lol I guess its all shakepere and Chris Nolan for you! lol just kidding... I mean really there is NO bad action unless its done cheap. We are talking about the God Fathers of the action BIZ here!! Expendables is going to OWN...if you think otherwise its time to check your testosterone levels!!

I think Die Hard was topped by many action movies after and before it! Even so by its last 2 sequels; Die Hard with a Vengence and Live free or Die Hard. Both badass movies!

Am I alone in thinking that considering "Inception" was #1 for THREE weeks, perhaps the word "topple" doesn't really apply in this sense?  I like Will Ferrell, but I doubt one of his comedies will be #1 for another week.

SarcasticCaveman 8/9/2010 11:26:33 AM

It's just...to me, the word "topple" suggests "conquering with superior power"...I like think that "The Other Guys" just happened to catch "Inception" while it wasn't looking, as it was basking in the glow of it's own success.
