What They Say
Country boy Akira is finally getting used to life at the Takatou mansion, where he is one of two candidates to be heir to the vast Takatou fortune. The other candidate is his princely cousin Rei, who is completely smitten with Akira. Things get hectic, however, as new troublemaking members join the household.

First to show up is Akira's uncle Yuji: dead set against the stuffy customs of the Takatou matron, he has refused to take over as heir to the Takatou name. Next to reappear is the troublemaking Raoul. As he and Rei lock horns over Akira's attentions, Akira himself is intent on discovering more about his father's past.

When Rei learns that Akira and Raoul are trapped in a storage shed together, his jealousy goes through the roof. He forces his love on a reluctant Akira, who then realizes that Rei's feelings for him are genuine, and the two reaffirm their affection for each other.

The Review
The competition between Akira and Rei for the position as head of the Takatou family takes a backseat in this volume to the advancement of the relationship between the two. To that end, Akira has definitely become more accustomed to Rei's physical advancements, but emotionally Akira is still very confused. He wants to be with Rei, but Akira is unsure about Rei's true feelings regardless of his claims. Rei treats him like a commodity, one which he's very jealous of anyone getting near. This becomes incredibly apparent with the introduction of Akira's Uncle Yuji. Yuji is the Takatou who refused to become the next family head and prompted Akira and Rei's current situation. Yuji doesn't want Akira to deal with being the head of the family that his father walked away from. So Yuji asks Akira to live with him and even goes as far as kidnapping him for a short time. Rei will have nothing of this so he quickly goes after Akira. But is Rei doing this because he doesn't want anyone else to be with Akira or because he really cares about Akira's well being.

The family relations between all the characters continues to be so confusing I wish I had a spreadsheet to keep it all straight. With that complaint aside, this volume does reveal a lot more background information for the characters. Among those revelations, I thought the real reason for Akira's introduction to the Takatou family and its' search for the next head of the family was the most interesting. For the BL fans that may have been disappointed with the level of 'intimacy' between Akira and Rei in the first volume, don't worry it gets much more heated in volume two.
