What They Say
"I think I feel ready... to embrace Rei."

Rei's advances always melt Akira's heart, but with the arrival of Shigure's older brother Sagiri as well as Raoul and his little twin sisters, Rei doesn't seem to be in the best of moods! No matter what troubles lie in Rei's past or whatever hiccups in their relationship, Akira vows to overcome them all for the sake of his beloved Rei. The boys' relationship takes a huge leap forward.

The Review
Rei and Akira's world is thrown upside down when the Basil family interferes once again, and the bizarre Tenchi Muyo-like family connections between Our Kingdom's characters also continues in this volume. It turns out Shigure, Rei's bodyguard, has an older brother named Sagiri who used to be Rei's number one bodyguard until he was injured in the line of duty. Well, now Sagiri is fully recovered and ready to replace Shigure as Rei's bodyguard. The relationship between Shigure and Sagiri is yet another example of how apparently family members are not allowed to have normal healthy relationships in this series. Anyways, Shigure and Sagiri are quite different from each other and neither Rei nor Okumiya want to see Shigure go, but there is a lot more going on behind the scenes than anyone knows.

Enter Raoul, once again. This time Raoul has shown up in Japan with his younger sisters, twin girls, and an entourage of security. Raoul kidnaps Akira, been done, and hides out on a luxury yacht, yes this was also done once before. Supposedly this is part of a plan by Keath, the head of Basil security, to test Shigure and Sagiri. So who will triumph and become the bodyguard for Rei? Will Raoul have his way with Akira before Rei can rescue him? Why are the Basil twin girls drawn like little trolls?

I feel this volume shows the artist has reached the character limit. Sagiri looks too much like Yuji, who looks too similar to Okumiya, so it can be difficult to tell the characters apart. I am also disappointed with the two little Basil girls because they look like a couple of trolls. The story also seems to have stalled. Yes there are new characters, but the whole idea of Raoul kidnapping Akira and competing with Rei is really getting old. Not only that but the author has lost any compassion I may have felt for Rei. I actually feel more sympathy for Raoul always being compared to Rei, who is good at everything he tries without putting in much effort. This is a long series, but at this point I can't tell if it is going anywhere or if plot ideas are just going to keep recycling every other volume.
