Another remake of a George A. Romero film is set to hit theaters in the near future thanks to Overture Films. The indie distributor has jumped on board to produce and distribute The Crazies, a remake of the zombie mastermind's 1973 film. The reworking will be directed by Breck Eisner, based on a script from Ray Wright and Scott Kosar. Michael Aguilar and Dean Georgaris are set to produce while Romero will serve as an executive producer. Production is set to begin early next year.
The project was originally circulating around Paramount and Rogue Pictures offices before Overture's CEO Chris McGurk and chief operating officer Danny Rosett agreed it would make a good fit for their expanding slate of films.
Plot Concept: "Crazies" revolves around people in a small Kansas town who are beset by a virus that causes insanity and death after a mysterious toxin contaminates the local water supply.
