Walt Disney Studios has released new images for Sam Raimi’s Oz the Great and Powerful, but wait that’s not all. With a trailer screened at Comic Com 2012 on Thursday, Disney Released the trailer immediately on DisneyGo.com.

The Plot: When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz), and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.

Well aren't those just beautiful.  Should be an interesting movie.

I thought the whole point of the original was that it was all Dorothy's death fantasy?

MrJawbreakingEquilibrium 7/13/2012 8:29:22 AM

Yeah, somehow I doubt that, diggity, especially seeing there were sequels.

It looks pretty to the eye and the teaser sets up the storyline well. I know someone who worked on the production of the movie and told me some fun stories. Basically, they said most of the sets were made for greenscreen but what was there looked great as well as the costumes. Everybody loved Raimi and was a great guy to work for. And the Munchkin actors party like rock stars.

@Jdiggity, Doroty's trip to Oz being a dream was created for the classic 1939 WoO movie. It was always considered as a real world in the books with 14 in the series written by L.Frank Baum.

jdiggity - That's what it was according to Aunty Em and the others who didn't go to Oz, but was it really?

jdiggitty 7/13/2012 9:38:49 AM

Thank you monkeyfoot. I wasn't aware of the book series. I never had any interest in the movie after seeing it once.

They lost me at James Franco.

I think it looks really cool, liked the black/white real world vs. colorful Oz stuff they went with.

I don't know what I was expecting but that trailer was not it, I just don't know what I was expecting, damn!

jsmulligan 7/13/2012 5:57:54 PM

The trailer looks good, though I'd be much more interested if Franco wasn't involved.  Just don't care for him in anything I've seen him do.  I'm sure I'll still see it at some point though.
