Welcome to another edition of the Countdown, which Mania serves it up lovingly to you every week. I, your host, Captain Gordon welcome you back to the article a little sad this week. It seems that games were scaled back this week, meaning that there were not many at all. This was the same situation with other games like FFXII and Halo 2 where released, and so I guess people played it safe when Nintendo released a Mario game for the Wii. The Wii continues to entertain me... No matter what the game, and this game gives another interesting take on gameplay. But enough with the grind... Lets get to it.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2 (PS2) - Racing with drifting? Is this a new concept? How about racing in Tokyo to the Xtreme? Well that is a no as well but again this is the second in the series. It comes together fairly well, and the screens of the game look pretty interesting. I like the different place that the game is set in, compared to many of the other racing games, so if you are a nut about driving games... Why not pick this one up?

Brave: The Search for Spirit Dancer (PS2) - Ahh here we have a game that has been delayed for quite a while. I decided to take a look back at an older Countdown from October for a bit more information.

A slightly older game from Japan, released there last year, the game is based on the mythology of the Native Americans. You embark on an epic journey to save your tribe, after the evil Wendigo attack it. At least you are the greatest Shaman to have lived, so now you can dance your way to victory in a non-DDR game.

PuzzleScape (PSP) - Players arrange blocks of different colours into chains that are exploded by 2x2 same coloured blocks. Eliminating the blocks creates level-ups and the player can gather a variety of power-ups by creating long chains. Level-ups introduce new elements into visually amazing background landscapes. So this ends up being pretty much like a lot of the other puzzle games, but why reinvent the wheel?

Hot Dog King (PC) - Well this one I really just like the name. It almost sounds a little too adult. But you can consider this game a bit like the Lemonade Tycoon game where you try and micromanage all of the day to day operations to try and make yourself the King Dog. Hopefully it works out for you.

Super Paper Mario (Wii) - Mario and Luigi are enjoying a lazy afternoon at their house when they hear the terrible news: Princess Peach has been kidnapped! Perhaps they just went back in time... But anyways the two brothers head straight for Bowser's castle to get her back, but Bowser is just as surprised about Peach's kidnapping as they are. At that moment, a strange top-hat villain warps in and abducts everyone but Mario.

The game features something a bit unique to even the Paper Mario series, and that is being able to switch it from a 2D side scroller to a 3D one as well. Switching back and forth will be the way to victory, if you are up to it. I can easily say that this game will be the Game of the Month, because I would be shocked and appalled if it ended up being a horrible game.

Well this has been another week on the Countdown. I hope you tie your shoes, and watch your step, because a flood of games generally follows weeks like these. I hope they stay true to that and not short-change us again because not everyone has a Wii just yet. It seems they have all ready started sending out some Wii’s because they are trying to offer different colours, and include the DVD drive. Of course that is just a rumour at this time... But keep that in mind if you need another DVD playing device in your house. Anyways, this is Captain Gordon... Signing off.
