Paramount Pictures has snagged the rights to CARTER BEATS THE DEVIL on behalf of legendary writer/director Robert Towne (MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, CHINATOWN).
Producing for the studio is Tom Cruise's Cruise/Wagner Productions, which helped bring Towne's great but little seen WITHOUT LIMITS to the big screen> It is not clear if Cruise will star.
The story, from novelist Glen David Gold, is a quirky action/thriller set in the roaring 1920s centering on a magician whose life gets tough when he plays one of his famous tricks on President Warren G. Harding.
