The super-low-budget super-spooky 'Paranormal Activity' is ramping up into a major phenomenon.

Aside from getting rave reviews from horror movie sites, distributor Paramount Pictures tells us the film sold out all screenings of it's first limited run where it played in seven cities across the U.S. Then it's sold all screenings in the second leg of its limited release, where it expanded out to 12 college towns. So what did they do? Pushed it out to 20 more cities. Again, the film sold out all screenings.

Last week it was the #2 movie in Pennsylvania, topped only by the 'Toy Story' double feature.

Now, Paramount is testing the waters for a full-on wide release. Fans who want to see the movie are encouraged to click over to Eventful.com/ParanormalActivity and demand the thriller be released everywhere. Currently almost 400,000 fans have clicked in their demands. If the tally hits one million, Paramount aims to break it out wide.

Director Oren Peli's innovative screamer tells of a middle-class couple settling in to a new house. They become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be somehow demonic but is certainly most active in the middle of the night. Especially when they sleep...or try to.

By all accounts this movie lives up to the hype. If you want to see it in a theater, hit Eventful.com/ParanormalActivity.

Nearing 500k now. I do hope this gets a wide release. I wanna see this in the theater, and as I'm in the UK the chances of that are slim unless it gets a wide release.

Although, after checking out the 'demand it' page, it does seem like a deliberate marketing campaign rather than a 'test the water' effort. Starting off on limited release gets peoples interest. By halloween it'll probably be world wide, which is probably how they planned it.

Lol, look at how the counter automatically jumps by four "votes" every few seconds.  This thing is fixed folks.  How much do you want to bet that if someone did the math the site would hit 1,000,000 "votes" right around, oh I don't know, a week or so before Halloween?  Does anyone really think they would have gone through all this vote business if it wasn't already pegged for wide release?  It's not like it would stall at 950,000 and they would say, "Dang!  Missed it by THAT much....well, I guess there won't be a wide release now."  This is just marketing.  That said I really want to see this movie.
