New TINTIN Poster Appears (Article) - 8/9/2011 11:28:05 AM

I can't wait for the film. I grew up on TinTin and have all the comics, even in Digital form, and read them to my kids. Kids are excited as well. This is exactly the type of thing the Spielberg touch was made for. Should be wonderful. I can certainly understand those who never read the comics might not be as excited, but they were wonderful stories. I do agree with Muenster though, this could be one of those, Worldwide Huge numbers and only so-so US numbers type of movies. And frankly, I'm ok with that.

Mania Review: Cowboys and Aliens (Article) - 7/29/2011 8:56:03 AM

I'm pumped, I won my bet. On the way home from seeing this, we were talking about reviewers and I jokingly told my buddy no way Rob "I Love To Write Reviews For Controversy's Sake" Vaux gives this movie better than a C. After seeing it last night with me, he was sure old Rob would give it at least a B . I win. The movie is much better than this review would indicate. There's quite a bit of subtle humor, excellent action and story build that the review seems to dismiss. There is a slight drag to the film nearer to the beginning, but it quickly picks back up. Craig is great in the "Clint Eastwood" stranger role and Harrison Ford is as wonderful and belligerent as ever and does really well with both the humorous and dramatic scenes. For me the only downside was Olivia Wilde and this is mostly because she is somewhat expressionless regardless of the part she plays (See Tron). If you like westerns you'll like this movie. The look and the feel scream Old West and the aliens simply add an exciting touch. I agree with Lazarus as well. It's a good, solid Summer movie!!

CARS 2 Enjoys Fast Start (Article) - 6/27/2011 7:59:59 AM

Love it... Pixar is Critic, and overly self-important fanboy, proof!!

Mania Review: Cars 2 (Article) - 6/24/2011 12:49:32 PM

Regarding the review, whatever. Pulling out the old, "The original Cars is widely regarded as the weakest film in the studio’s canon" crap is tired and old. There's a reason Cars made 240 Million dollars and continues to be one of Disney's shining brands when it comes to toys, shorts, theme park attractions, etc... Kid's love it. It will be the same for Cars 2. Took my kids to see it and they loved it. The movie is loud and colorful and filled with action scenes and goofy kid humor. If that's not your thing, don;t go see it. But for those of us with kids and who are kids at heart... it was great.

Mania Review: Green Lantern (Article) - 6/17/2011 11:10:13 AM

Just saw it... liked it. Effects were  pretty amazing, and in 3D looked incredible. Decent story, but I wasn't expecting shakespeare. Do find it kind of intresting when people go back and forth on what makes a "comic book" movie great. Movies should be judged on there own merit. If you liked it, great. X-Men First Class didn't stick to the comic books, but was an excellent film. Dark Knight... loved it. Performances were outstanding, but I can certainly see Wiseguy's point. Not his Cup 'o Tea. Green Lantern, so-so story, but a fun ride. Shoot, that's all I want on a Friday afternoon.

News Pics from X-Men: First Class (Article) - 5/27/2011 9:49:56 AM

Just saw this last night at a preview showing... Excellent movie. The acting is amazing, especially some of the smaller players in the film. It definitely isn't faithful to the comics, although some of what you see in the previews aren't what you think they are and explain why certain characters are present when you think they shouldn't be. Biggest Surprise: Kevin Bacon and January Jones... Both outstanding!!

And regardless of how you feel about continuity, etc. the movie is a wonderful film and stands well on it's own.

Takashi Miike should be the only words you need to hear. Amazing Movie. Thank you iTunes Pre-screen!!!

First Two GL Spots Online (Article) - 4/4/2011 2:06:31 PM

I'm right there with ya age wise flinshady, and agree that movies like Alien and Blade Runner (Two of my favorites, btw) are a dying breed with the technological advancements they seem to make on a moment by moment basis, but I certainly don't mind CGI if it's used well and enhances the story. Same way I feel about 3D. That being said, I think GL looks pretty amazing and I'm looking forward to it. Should be a great summer of movies with Thor, Cap and GL on the horizon. And Badger, I agree, May 6, seems so far.

Mania Review: Mars Needs Moms (Article) - 3/11/2011 9:27:37 AM

Took the kids to see this last night. Thought it was excellent. As ususal Rob's review is negative... and useless. I always feel like he's seen a different movie than the rest of us. The technology he knocks suits itself to 3-D almost better than anything else out there and the movie looks wonderful on the big screen. It really does look amazing. The story was wonderful, moving from funny and exciting to emotional, which Disney seems to do best. The actors were outstanding, and the characters easily came to life and cause you to care about them and my kids love seeing how magic is made. If you have kids, or wnat to see a simple yet fun movie, I'd recommend Mars Nees Moms.

47 RONIN Begins Production (Article) - 3/2/2011 10:18:37 AM

I'm with you wiseguy, I actually enjoy Keanu Reeves. Not the greatest actor, but fun to watch. And fatpntz, if he's Hawaiian, he likely has some japanese in him. I do agree about Carl Erik Rinsch, his short the GIft was really interesting.
