rumor has it that Nolan is coming full circle with this last installment so this news makes sense. Man, I cant wait.

It seems that Warner Bros. Pictures and director Christopher Nolan are ready to officially confirm some plot details about their fast-tracking third installment, The Dark Knight Rises. While the two parties have remained mum on any and all plot specifics (even around the numerous casting additions), HR is reporting that Josh Pence has been cast in the final installment of Nolan's trilogy and they're revealing the role that the actor will be playing.
The trade reveals that Pence has come on board to play a younger version of Ra's Al Ghul, the very character that Liam Neeson portrayed in Nolan's 2005 reboot, Batman Begins. Josh's version of the character is set to appear via flashbacks to three decades earlier. The casting announcement will likely add credibility to the frequent rumors that Talia Al Ghul, his daughter, is one of the female additions being currently cast for the production.
Beyond this latest bit, Nolan remains to keep the overall plot details close to his vest. Feel free to speculate with your own theories down below.
The Dark Knight Rises also stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Juno Temple. Returning franchise writers David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan co-wrote the screenplay for the film which is expected to swoop into theaters July 20, 2012.

Well, if this guy is in it to set up Talia, then we know Carwoman will have someone to fight.
@madmanic999 Carwoman? Is she a transformer?
Personally not a big fan of Nolan's "reality" Batman. the Michael Keaton Batman is still my favorite version. (and the Michelle Pfeiffer is still the HOTTEST CATwoman. EVERRRRRRR (like in purr).
trollman: Yeah, I feel the same way. The Nolan films were ok, but the whole realistic approach has worn itself out. I want to see more of how Batman started out to be in the 1989 film. If Ra's Al-Ghul appears in the next reimagining of Batman films, I hope he's actually immortal. I also hope we can see Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy again, but with more faithful interpretations of the characters.
krathwardroid, despite my love of the Nolan versions, I too would like to see a new Batman series but set in the DC Universe and with a gothic touch to it's scenery. However, regarding this idea of Warner Brothers going back and doing a prequel to the 1989 Burton version...I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen. After all, that series ended up with Batman and Robin, the worst Batman movie anyone could imagine! If there was any more justice in the genre movie realm, the studio would hire producers who would combine the best of the Nolan versions and Burton's version (Batman 1989). In other words, Batman:The Animated Series!!!
The Tim Burton version was really just a darker version of the Adam West T.V. show on steroids. I remember being happy they made a big budget Batman movie and there were some things I liked about it, BUT.... there were so many more things about the movie I found dissapointing. I prefer to think of them as an "Elseworlds" version of the Batman. The worst thing about the Burton version was that it paved the way for Joel Shumcher to convert the franchise into the "Gay Ice Capades". Nolans' version of Batman has been the best so far. I am sorry that Nolan is only going to be involved in a trilogy because I feel they could incorporate his Batman into the new Superman reboot. The difference in tone would mirror the differences in the characters themselves. Making Batman more realistic was a brilliant idea because the comics version can at times be one of the most UN-realistic characters in the D.C. universe.
They can't incorporate "Nolans" Batman into the new superman reboot because he says Superman isn't in his "world". I'm just hoping they get a Director next time who knows Batman is way bigger then the directors EGO! I want a Batman movie that is really BATMAN like Batman Arkham Asylum which is WAY better then the Nolan movies!
Based on the Arkham Asylum game (Best Superhero game EVER) and the coming attractions for Arkham City and the trailer for DC Universe Online I think they should just make a feature length movie using the same tone and look of that computer generated world. I would pay money to see a feature length movie in the theaters that was done in that style. The 7 minute trailer for DC Universe Online is better than 90 % of the live action superhero films Hollywood has given us. They could even do this in conjunction with a live action film Batman. Fans and casual filmgoers are smart enough to know they would be two different interpretations of the character.
Jacen, dude, difference in catering to fanboy/genre film watchers and larger demographics.
People fail to realize, this board is made up of fans. Do a poll of the 300 million in America, then the world. You have to insure the BEST return on investiment, and boys/girls reality is that is what a movie boils down to today. An investiment by the producers and movie studios. Hense why Wolverine was PG-13 nightmare instead of the horrific R masterpeice it could have been. WHY because they wanted more people to be able to see it and take their kids to see it. If the movie industry gave a SHIT about authenticity or being true to characters/universes there would be a much better interpretation of many characters. Can you say Punisher? THAT movie begs to be done correctly. AND with today's world and event. easily conceivable and doable.
Ohh love triangle here we go....
