The Penguin in THE DARK KNIGHT?

According to Batman on Film, the upcoming sequel to BATMAN BEGINS, entitled THE DARK KNIGHT, may feature Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.

Batman on Film writes, "This comes in from one of my best sources who previously gave up the scoop Katie Holmes and Ken Watanabe's casting in BEGINS, as well as confirming an offer had made to Ledger). Here goes:

"As you have long suspected, the two main villains in the BATMAN BEGINS sequel will be The Joker and The Penquin. I can confirm that an offer has been made to Philip Seymour Hoffman for the role. Yet Hoffman has indicated that he may not get involved in the sequel."

Could the upcoming sequel feature both Penguin and Joker? If so, let's hope they are balanced better than Two Face and the Riddler in a previous debacle of a Batman film.

Thanks to Jonathan for the heads up.

I recently watched the Batman animated film: "Mystery of the Batwoman" on YTV (I think that was the title), and I really liked the Penguin in that cartoon.

I also think Philip Seymour Hoffman would make a good penguin. I'm curious to see how this pans out and I know, gratefully, it won't be a rehash of Danny Devito and Tim Burton's interpretation. Batman Begins / The Dark Knight should be above that silliness.

so many characters to introduce to the rebirth of the Batman franchise, why the penguin? Why not introduce more characters we haven't seen on film?

I like the whole Dent being an ally for now and then Two Face later, but I agree with the above, lets see some characters that we haven't seen right now. Nolan has proved that he can make them interesting and work so the executives at Warner need to trust him and let him go and do new things.
Besides I don't see him as Penguin.

Great choice!

I'd like to see the Penguin as a nighclub owner (where the classic tuxedo look would play well), arms dealer and the "behind the scenes" villain for a couple of movies.

I would too wess. I was facisnated when I heard that take Nolan had for the Penguin. Let's hope the Hoffman wises up and realizes that this would be a killer of a role for him.

Can't say I'm excited about the penguin. I hated Burton's version though so I'm sure this can only be better.
I've liked Hoffman since twister, but not sure he could pull this off. Though who could?

how about keeping up with tradition and have Mel Gibson play Dr. Freeze!! you know old Nazi doctor messing around with low body tempatures. Didnt anyone ever wonder how a middle aged German Doctor in the 40's and 60's was so knowledgeable about freezing human beings?

He might be a good choice for the penguin

Patrick Stewart should of been Mr Freez back then, as much as he should be now.
