Three months after 20th Century Fox brought in writers to flesh out a scripted sequel to Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, the Los Angeles Times' 24 Frames reports the studio has also found their director. Helmer Thor Freudenthal is the one set in charge of visualizing the next story from Rick Riordan's best-selling Percy Jackson book series. The original director, Chris Columbus, is still on board as a producer and Logan Lerman is returning to the title role. Screenwriters Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski were tasked with scripting out the story.

Plot Concept: With the revelation that this sequel could draw from numerous books in Riordan's series, we can pass along that the second book, The Sea of Monsters, centered on Percy and his group of friends as they head to the titular sea to find the mythical Golden Fleece, with hopes to free a friend who captured there.

The first one absolutely SUCKED! So different from the book, which was pretty good. The only movie that disappointed me more recently was GI Joe. This one has "wait till its on FX" written all over it

I really really enjoyed Percy Jackson and I'm glad to see it's getting a sequel. I was under the impression they were abandoning the franchise, happy to be wrong

I don't understand why they don't give JUMPER the sequel treatment also. Very similar numbers, Jumper actually made Fox more money. Come on FOX

Did Jumper have a sequel? to my knowledge the only other book was the spinoff pseudo prequel about Griffin.

I agree with you cheeky, the first movie was terrible and not even close to following the book. I hope they recast reboot retool redo and start over like its a new series.

The first one was ok but definitely did not make me want to see a sequel, even though I read the whole series.  Hopefully they do a better job with this one.  I liked the cast so I don't want them to start over.  The book to film I pray they redo someday is Eragon though.  What a mess that was!

Plenty of books left in the series to make sequels. I haven't seen the first movie, yet, so I think I might catch that one of these days on cable.

I haven't seen this yet.  It got bad reviews and I didn't think it fared well at the box office.  However, it has Pierce Brosnan, so I'll give it a rental some night.

I actually liked the first one. I'd like to see a sequel if its as good or better than the first

just get netflix and watch it

for $8 a month it isnt hurting the pocket to watch crap like lightning thief was.

it was well done visually and some of the ideas were cool. but overall acting and story were to predicable and lame. not necessarily in the same order...

this is really no big surprise- everyone is looking for the next big harry potter book now that the movies have run its course. Rick's work is good but it is difficult to translate to screen. I thought the first one was just ok myself
