Snoot Entertainment has signed actor Ron Perlman to star in their hybrid martial arts movie BANRAKU.

The story is set in a hyperstylized universe and draws from a mixed bag of genres, including puppets, origami, comic books, video games and German expressionism. It follows a drifter who teams with a samurai to take on an Eastern European gang lord, to be played by Perlman.

The actor joins a cast that includes Josh Hartnett, Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, Scottish actor Kevin McKidd, Japanese actors Gackt and Shun Sugata and Spanish actor Jordi Molla.

Guy Moshe will direct from his own script.  Keith Calder, Jessica Wu, Nava Levin and Ram Bergman will produce.

Perlman besides starring in films like HELLBOY, CITY OF LOST CHILDREN, BLADE II and the upcoming HELLBOY II, the actor has lent his voice to such projects as HELLBOY ANIMATED, JUSTICE LEAGUE HEROES, HALO 3, and TEEN TITANS.

Wow, I don't even know what to make of this. For all the people who complain that Hollywood doesn't do anything new - well here you go! Can't wait to see some visuals from this. It ought to be something special.

Puppets and origami? Well, we wanted original. Beware what you wish for, I suppose...

The cast sounds great but I'll withhold further comment until I see something.
