With Hellboy II: The Golden Army right around the corner, Edward Douglas had a chance to talk shop with leading stars Ron Perlman, Doug Jones and new villain Luke Goss. The upcoming sequel also co-stars Selma Blair, Seth MacFarlane, Anna Walton, Brian Steele, Roy Dotrice and John Hurt. Director Guillermo del Toro---who's traveling to middle earth the next 4 years to direct The Hobbit films---once again led production, based on a screenplay that he penned.

Here's a clip of Perlman's thoughts.

SHH!: Most people who see this movie will presumably have seen the first movie, but some people won't have. What would you like them to leave this movie with as far as Hellboy's character arc?
Perlman: Well, first and foremost, I just hope they have the time of their life watching the movie, because whatever else it is, it's meant to entertain and meant to have somebody be someplace for two hours and not think about the rest of the sh*t that we live in, of which sometimes there's even too much to process. But you get so much more in any Guillermo del Toro movie and I could stand here for two hours just addressing the other levels that are being harkened too along the way. Mostly, I'd like people to say, "Man, I really, really liked the first movie but the second one rocks!" That's what I like.

Plot Summary: With a signature blend of action, humor and character-based spectacle, the saga of the world's toughest, kitten-loving hero from Hell continues to unfold in "Hellboy II: The Golden Army." Bigger muscle, badder weapons and more ungodly villains arrive in an epic vision of imagination from Oscar®-nominated director Guillermo del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth," "Hellboy").

After an ancient truce existing between humankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic is broken, hell on Earth is ready to erupt. A ruthless leader who treads the world above and the one below defies his bloodline and awakens an unstoppable army of creatures. Now, it's up to the planet's toughest, roughest superhero to battle the merciless dictator and his marauders. He may be red. He may be horned. He may be misunderstood. But when you need the job done right, it's time to call in Hellboy (Ron Perlman).

Along with his expanding team in the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development--pyrokinetic girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair), aquatic empath Abe (Doug Jones) and protoplasmic mystic Johann--the BPRD will travel between the surface strata and the unseen magical one, where creatures of fantasy become corporeal. And Hellboy, a creature of two worlds who's accepted by neither, must choose between the life he knows and an unknown destiny that beckons him.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army will hit theaters July 11, 2008.

My wife even expressed interest in HB2, and she hasn't even seen the first one. She's not adverse to this kind of film, she's just usually not interested. But me? Yeah, I'm ready.

Oh and I found this on WENN that was relavent and a tad humorous; I left a bit out and got to the point...

Mexican moviemaker Guillermo Del Toro has ruled out ever directing a romantic film - because he prefers blood and guts.

He explains, "No way. Sleepless in Seattle can go f**k itself.

Looking forward to it but not expecting much. Maybe cause I don't read the comic but the first one didn't really pull me in.

note to Lakers' fans (hanso et al) I am repeating this
That's how you pull off a comeback. No that half ass shit that went down in game 2. Either you do it all the way or else it isn't worth talking about. I was about to jump out of my window at halftime but only cause I'm on the first floor. I knew we had the Lakers right where we wanted them, 24 point ahead and ripe for the kill. BOOO HAA HAA HA ha ha ha...Yeah that's my evil laugh.

GREEN ALL THE WAY

I think the trailer looks better than the first one, more Pan's Labyrinth tripped out style...I think it works, plus now they don't have to do the whole set-up thing.....next big movie I can't wait for is Wanted.

Don't lop me in with the unexcited... I've been stoked about Hellboy for months now... Probably moreso than for The Hulk.

Hellboy rules. I cannot wait. HB is my big movie this summer second only to Dark Knight. It's nice to hear some positive hype though. Now if Sideshow would just announce a Hellboy 2 action figure...

Yeah the first one was okay. The second one looks just downright wierd. I get a "Fifth Element" vibe from it, like at the end I'll be saying, "What the hell was this movie about!??"

I'll wait for it to be on cable!
