What They Say
When Thomas is in Control they never say No. Passed down from generation to generation was this ancient chinese secret. One day Thomas, while out looking for a job, was riding the subway and he meets the man that will teach him all he will ever need to know about seducing and pleasuring women. Thomas intrigued with his new found power, takes his gift from place to place pleasuring sexy strangers.

The Review!
With a little bit of guidance from a quirky old guy in a jumpsuit, Thomas learns the ropes of being a master of perversion with women.

For our primary viewing session, we listened to this show in its original language of Japanese. And then we realized that there really were no subtitles available here so we switched over to the English language track so we could at least get a glimmer of what the show is about beyond man having lots of sex. The two tracks are basically identical for all intents and purposes as it's a standard stereo mix that's mostly dialogue outside of a few music cues and some background noise and other mild sound effects throughout. It's not a terribly strong mix but it is clean and clear and we had no problems with either track in listening to them.

Originally released in 2004, the transfer for this OVA is presented in its original full frame aspect ratio. This release is something of a first in that it has something to its visuals that I've simply never seen before. In general, the transfer for this looks good as it's clean and free from defects such as blemishes or other basic problems. Colors look good though not terribly vibrant and if anything, it's a touch soft in general. But what is really strange and is something that I've never seen is that the image throughout looks like it's overlaid with chicken wire. Very small and very fine chicken wire, but that kind of look to it. I'm not even sure how to properly explain it and I'm sure it's causing the overall softness to it as edges aren't as well defined as most shows tend to be. I'm almost wondering if this was possibly some kind of VHS source material and it just looks worse when brought up to DVD level. Because of these issues, there's no way I could recommend this, it's incredibly distracting and lowers the overall quality of the materials. Even if it is inherent in it.

The front cover is a good looking piece that has a close-up view from the outside of a train looking in to one of the windows where you see one of the girls being taken advantage of from behind. The character design looks really good and the setup works nicely, making it a very appealing cover. The back cover doesn't fare quite as well though as the blurring effect used on the text for the summary is too blurred. This is even more true when you realize that it's black text with yellow borders. It just looks bad. The layout in general is decent otherwise with another shot of the train's interior and an array of explicit images from within the show. The bottom portion lists out the discs features and basic technical information.

The menu is a fun little upbeat piece that has a static background image of the interior of a busy train but the center piece has a swirling piece of digital imagery that sort of gives you the feel of going down into a high tech tunnel, of which is overlaid with clips from the show itself. All of this is set to a bit of the quirky music that strangely fits the show at times. The navigation is pretty straightforward and having the straight to sex feature on the top level is likely appealing to those that just want to get right to it. Access times are nice and fast and due to the layout of the discs audio and subtitles, our presets were basically pointless.

The only extra included, outside of the bonus episode unrelated to the main feature, is a photo gallery with stills from the show.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Perverted Thomas is yet another in a long line of single episode OVAs from Milky that start off with a fun and enjoyable premise but didn't click enough with an audience to get more maid. I mean made. This isn't too much of a surprise considering how many train related shows have shown up here in the last year, and most of those were multiple episodes. You can imagine that it was easy to skip over those that didn't seem to be too interesting since there was plenty to choose from.

Once you know that it's a train based show, you can see how it will play out fairly easily, though it's not quite so much train based but rather the starting point. We're introduced to Thomas, a young man in search of a job who is spending a lot of time on the train going to interviews. He's a fairly good guy but situations lend themselves to him wanting to do more, such as when he realizes his hand is close to this one girls backside. But he doesn't give in to temptation and just moves a bit to get his briefcase, but that unfortunately pushes into the girl and she believes he's making a pass at her. Before he knows it, he's being given lessons by a quirky old guy in an orange jumpsuit about how to really take advantage of women. The basic rule being that they all really just want it.

With this new knowledge that he has plus an actual meeting with the girl from the train out in the real world, he's able to start down a path of seduction with some very attractive people. First taking down the girl from the train in a karaoke room and then having her encourage him on to tackle another girl in a bathroom out in the park, Thomas gains himself a pair of very sexually devoted women. He still has a lot to learn though and they want him to expand his skills so that requires more time with them but also bringing in some younger, fresher blood. With a bit more helpful advice from a man in a jogging suit, Thomas finds himself living a life he never thought he could before.

The character designs for the show are pretty good, at least for the women. Thomas comes across as a bit bland and not good or bad looking but just sort of there. And the old guy doesn't help either. But since the focus is on the women, it works out well in the long run but even there they're obscured because of the video issues. The animation in general is pretty good and there isn't a lot of repetition in scenes, the layouts are nice and the settings work well. But that all suffers the same as the characters do. Visually it could have been a good solid piece but it ended up being less so.

In Summary:
With the video problems here, it's a real mark against the show and it made it difficult to really enjoy what I thought were good looking character designs, well done sex scenes and an overall fun show. What made it even harder to enjoy was the lack of subtitles since I do prefer to watch my shows in Japanese and to know what's going on. There haven't been many shows that have been released this way, but it's happened over the years and they are almost universally disliked by consumers. It seems so pointless to even include the Japanese track if you're not going to subtitle it. And this is clearly a case of not providing them since it's not even in the menus. Whether licensing or by choice, it really hurts this release. The video hurts it even more. It could have been a solid one-shot but instead it's one to pass on without a second thought.
