Director Peter Berg is about to have a lot of work on his hands. At the same time that he is supposed to be revising Frank Herbert's Dune, the latest is that he will also be in charge of putting a new Hercules into theaters. Universal Pictures has Berg producing Hercules: The Thracian Wars, a co-production of Spyglass Entertainment, Berg's Film 44 and Radical Pictures. Spyglass and Universal will co-finance the film.

Ryan Condal will write the script, based on a five-issue comicbook series by Steve Moore that debuted in May through Radical Publishing.

Spyglass' Jonathan Glickman, Roger Birnbaum and Gary Barber will produce with Berg and his Film 44 partner Sarah Aubrey, with Barry Levine producing for Radical. Jesse Berger will executive produce.

Berg seems to have the gold (or at least silver) touch. Pretty sure this will be okay.

Kevin Sorbo lives!

In the words of Mrs.Klump: "Hercules, hercules, herculeeeeees"

Conan and Hercules both in the horizon, I love it. Give me any sword and sorcery, mythology and I'm there. The hardest thing may be finding someone that fits the role and can act. We don't want another Lou Ferrigno Hercules.

Berg won't be directing so it'll be interesting to see who he goes after for the job.

Wow, somebody actually took my suggestion and is doing a Hercules movie. It should be done instead of a Clash of the Titans remake but oh well. Berg should come up with a great take on it. I'm sure it won't be with Sorbo though.

I've been at a family reunion and been away from the internet and the media a bit. Anything interesting happening? No good movies came out, huh? I heard Mamma Mia was good. Anybody see it?

monkeyfoot you have to see Space Chimps. Hands down best flick of the summer if not the year! Space Chimp will own you!!!

Berg's great and Hercules has huge potential. I'm with WISEGUY, this and Conan have me pretty psyched. I'm actually looking forward to the Titans remake as well. So far I've liked what I've read about all three.

If it ain't Sorbo it shouldn't be done i tell ya!

I forgot to add something that i usually do with all these greek mythology films.

WTF!!!!!!???? Why, why can't someone announce God of WAR!! What did I do to deserve this!!!?
I have to read about Hercules, Conan, 300 sequel, Clash of the Titans etc, but no damn God of WAR, the movie gods have forsaken me and left me in a sad little world were Kratos won't live to see the light of day in a movie theatre.

I hate you Sony, curse you, a curse on both your housessssssss!

Kratos would bitch slap Conan, Hercules, Leonidas and everyone else that comes his way. I'm tellin you, God of War done well would be the second best thing you've ever seen in your life.

I am the GOD OF WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS. The trailer for God of War 3 looks fuckin awesome.

Let's not forget THOR is also in the works.
I don't think Kratos could even lift Mjolnir let alone Thor's jock strap or whatever he wears under his pants.

Now, the question is, will they go the ancient Greek swords & sorcery route? Or will they try to "modernize" it, either by making Herc hip & prettyboy (a la Knight's Tale) or by, God forbid, trying to bring it to the modern day like the Governator in Herc in NY? I'm guessing they'll go the traditional route, but with Hollywood, you never know.

Peter Berg is quickly becoming a hot Hollywood action director. The Rundown is up there with one of my favorite action movies. The Kingdom was amazing and Hancock was hella fun. I can't wait to see what he does next. I am also hoping that they release a directors cut of Hancock, as I have read they cut like 30 minutes of the film to make it less dramatic and to avoid an R rating.

i wish peter berg would have gotten to do thor - but hercules is good - now they need a new up and commer a young guy from the bodybuilding world to play hercules not a current actor .. i mean jay cutler is great but possibly too big for the role...
